Mako the Honorbound

One of "Alixar’s Children" who gained fame during the War for Edrian, Mako was a gnoll raised by the renowned enchanter. For much of his younger life, Mako was disdained by the public who often consider him and his "brothers" to be a cruel experiment.   After the war, Mako retired to the isolated coastal town of Ghent, known for its tolerance, with plans to live up peaceful, quiet life. And for a time, he did find serenity. There, Mako discovered the curse of his creation; exceptionally long life. Others noticed too.   He graduated from hermit to respected town elder to its great defender. Even the gods took notice, sending him on a clandestine quest to rescue the Pale Maiden who had been captured and turned mortal.   After many years of protecting the town and his rescued, adopted daughter, Mako realized a hard truth; it was his presence and unwanted fame that continually brought peril to Ghent. He was less its protector and more a lightning rod for crisis. So one night, the ageless guardian left.   Today, a statue of Mako the Honorbound adorns Ghent's merger town square. Only the oldest of the town's residents remember the brave gnoll, but his memory is kept alive... or at least his legend.
