The Ozer Coast

The Ozer Coast is one of the highest in Talav, most of the coastline sits atop tall cliffs. The region is often subject to several earthquakes, and multiple active volcanoes dotting the coast. To most people, the Ozer seems far too inhospitable for any settlement, as the frequent earthquakes, eruptions, and harsh winters make the land hostile to non-natives. The Zmeiya however, are able to live within the, seemingly impossible, conditions of the Ozer.   The Cliffs rise nearly 200ft above sea level at the highest, overlooking the Cherni Sea. Most of the cliffs and the Ozer Mountains are covered in pine forests. There are also several volcanic peaks along the entire coast, most of which possess immense destructive power, such as pyroclastic clouds that can cover several miles around the peak.   The Summers tend to only be slightly warm. Come Winter, most people living along the coast won't leave their houses for the duration of the season. The weather is cloudy for over half the year, with rains being frequent. The weather can storm quite frequently, but due to the high levels of the coast, the storms rarely are able to destroy much of the cities along the coasts.

Geography

The Ozer coast is a high coast, with most of the coastline sitting at the lowest 20ft. above sea level, and nearly 200ft. at the highest points. So beach access is quite difficult. The coast is also very mountainous, with several active volcanoes dotting the mountains. At first glances, the coast seems a bleak, lifeless place where no-one could live. But the Zmeiya seem to thrive in this desolate environment.

Fauna & Flora

All of the wildlife on the coast has adapted to the rough, cold conditions.   In terms of the animals, several kinds of cervine creatures inhabit the place, seemingly outnumbering the predators. The Star-hide Deer is the dominant mammal of the coast. Notable for a fur pattern of four-point stars going down their back, the rest of the fur being a dark brown color. These herbivores are considered a nuisance to the native Zmeiya, and are often hunted for both meat and hide.   Another unique animal to the coast is the Pale Bear. This Ursine goliath, when on hind legs, stands nearly 10ft. Tall. They have a reputation for being fairly aggressive, especially with their cubs around. Though in other circumstances, do their best to avoid inhabited spaces.   The plants of the Frozen Coast have a unique flavor to them, as there seems to be several medicinal and edible plants.   A notable piece of flora is the Black Pine. These are by far the most recognizable plant of the Ozer. Standing, on average, 100ft tall. The trunks so dark, that they seem black from a distance, and the needles dark. While a helpful resource to the Zmeiya, several who've rested at the bottom have been injured, or killed by falling pinecones.   Another indigenous plant is the Dragon-headed Fern, a 2ft tall fern with a peculiar stalk, as the top curls down, and splits down the middle. The stalk is fairly skinny, and the leaves of the plant are fairly toxic. The Zmeiya have cultivated the fern for several generations. The stalk is a staple part of the Zmeiya diet, and the leaves are often quite flavorful, favored and desired as the "Dragon Wing".

Natural Resources

Along the Ozer Coast, one will easily find several resources needed to build an entire civilization. The Black Pine is a highly-used material. The wood is tough, and can last a long time before rotting. The pinecones and needles are often used as decorations.   Stone is an easy find on the coast, due to the mountains along the coast. Metal is quite abundant as well, particularly copper, iron, and silver. Obsidian is a precious commodity. It had been used as currency by the ancient Zmeiya tribes.   As for food. Not much can grow. There's Star-hide Deer for the primary source of meat, which is almost always plentiful. The Dragon-headed Fern, while not the best to eat in the wild, is easy to cultivate, and the whole fern can be used. The top of the stalks is a great source of green vegetable, and the leaves are used as a spice. Dusk Barley is often grown for bread and alcohol. Goats are a fairly recent addition to the local civilizations, giving the Zmeiya some much-desired dairy.
