Benai-ash-heret

(a.k.a. Fire-Among-Us)

Benai-ash-heret, literally: “fire among/under us”, is a Goddess of fire. Together with her mother, Benai-zhu-heret she forms the dualistic pantheon of the Faith of Divine Fire.   Benai-ash-heret was birthed at the beginning of times and send to live among humanity by her mother. Consequently, she is believed to be found wherever a fire is lit, though she loves the hearth and the forge the most.
Though the young goddess can be fickle, unpredictable or even cruel at times, she is greatly loved by her faithful. As her mothers herald among humans she is seen as more approachable – literally more 'down to earth' than the Queen of Heavens. Often called 'Lady Joy', she is seen as the personification of good luck, desire and earthly success. The more refined ways of working metal, Intoxication, Music and Dance are said to be her gifts to humanity. Most common people invoke her name in order to find happiness. Prayers in her name are often loud and cheerful dances in her honor are common.
The arts of smithing and of tattooing are sacred to her and her clergy will often practice either one or both. Casual temple prostitution is practiced at a few holy sites. Her clergy encourages self-expression and despises stagnation – however, they will defer to the clergy of Benai-zhu-heret when it comes to old traditions.   Like her mother, she is also venerated as a love goddess. In this role, she stands for the everyday aspects of love: desire, sex, whirlwind romances and crushes. It is said, if a young pair of lovers kiss close to a flame and the flame begins to flicker, it is hiding the giddy Benai-ash-heret, dancing with joy.
