Khif (Spike) Barbegut
Khif was born into a family of 8 brothers and sisters. Being the youngest of the eight he was always compared to and was expected to live up to his brothers and sisters. His 4 brothers had done well for themselves becoming Paladins and his sisters had married well. His family was very well respected within the community. This was a lot to live up to for him. At a young age he started to rebel as conformity was just not in his nature. Khif always seemed to be in trouble and as he grew quickly became the Black Sheep of the Clan. As early as could be remembered he could be found at the nearest Pub and more than likely in a fight. He was quick to enter a rage and his parents had to get him out of jail and pay his fines and damages many times.
Fed up with Khif’s wild ways his father decided that it would be best if he was sent away to either sink or swim so to speak. His father formulated a plan to get some discipline and order into his son’s life. At very least it would remove the source of family shame. He was escorted to the local docks and handed over to a gruff sea going captain on one of his father’s trading ships with the instructions to beat some since into him if possible. Khif had officially been banished by his own blood. If he had a bad attitude prior it was now to get even worse. He vowed then and there that he would not give into his father’s plans. He would make every day a challenge for this Captain.
Soon after setting sale on his father’s merchant ship Khif learned that life was not going to be easy. Most of the crew thought him a spoiled rich brat and was there to spy on them for his father. The captain was no easier as he felt he was reduced to a baby sitter and set out to make Khifs life as rough as possible. He was given every low and degrading job the captain could think of to break him. Khif grew more and more angry as the days went on vowing never to break. His strength was growing along with his anger. Khif took every opportunity to train with what ever weapon he could find. He was becoming quite accomplished with what was to become his favorite weapon the War Pick.
He slowly gained the trust and even some amount of respect from the crew. He was being given more and more duties. After a month’s He became a full-fledged member of the crew. He made a vow to himself that he would never use his true given name ever again. This would come to save his life one day though he did not know it at this time. Days passed months came and went nothing was changing and life was becoming a bore.
On one of the many trading stops that all changed for Khif. Finding his way to the nearest pub aptly name the Barbed Gull and fatted Gutt. He started drinking and as he drank he got riled up. More drinking more anger it was getting hard from him to contain it. One thing led to another and the fight was on. He was giving as well as he was getting until a large man with a patch on one eye walked up and took a swing. The next thing Khif remembers is waking up in a dark room with a headache and a burning belly.
The door flew open and in walked the man with the patch on his eye. Yelling get up you have work to do. Staggering out of the door he found himself not on his merchant vessel but on a strange boat with a strange crew. Seems the Captain had taken the opportunity to trade him to a pirate. To cover the damages in the Pub. Looking down at his burning belly he saw a large Tattoo. It of a woman with the name Barbegutt across it. The one-eyed man said that is to remind you of what got you here. He took to the pirate life with ease and was welcome to use his rage and powerful war pick strikes. He soon made a name for himself and adopted the last name of Spike Barbegut as his own.
On one of his raids all went wrong. He somehow wound up captured and soon found himself back in a city he vowed to never return to. Dressed in colors he had vowed to never wear again. Could he keep the truth of who he was and who his family was? He vowed he would never let anyone know his past even if it meant doing the unthinkable.
