McAllister Gresome

(a.k.a. Grease, McAl)

I said no weapons, no fightin', absolutely no gods-damned Locklanders!
— Gresome reminding some patrons about the rules of the Twelve Carrots

The owner of the infamous Twelve Carrots Tavern and Inn is none other than McAllister Gresome. There's a number of stories that surround the man and his business; most of which are exaggerate or beyond outlandish. Some say the bear of a bartender is a former Frostmerite or dishonored knight of the Grand Order of the Lion. Others think he was a Sharp or even a Thorn Lord in the Black Thorn Society before finally earning his retirement. Among the Arcane Underground of Frial there are those that say he was a sellsword or lone mage who gave up his old life and old magic. These sorts of myths have a way of cropping up from time to time about every well-known drink slinger. Gresome himself laughs them all off with a good humor about it, all rumors except those about the Black Thorn. Nothing sours his mood quicker.

Rumors aside, there's more than enough hard facts about McAllister's life that help paint a picture of the man. He first showed up in Frial about fourteen years ago where he made his rounds, and a small fortune, at the gambling tables of some of the most exclusive card games in the city. These sorts of games are usually invite-only and attract a rather varied, and dangerous cadre of players. As the story goes, Gresome was playing Riverman's Fate (a seven card style game where players who try to make the best hand possible with cards dealt directly them and a set of table cards that are laid out each round) in a particularly high-stakes event and in the final round he won the Twelve Carrots from it's previous owner, Janus Bilter. Bilter put up the Carrot to cover his bet when he went all in with a particularly choice hand. Unfortunately for Bilter that hand wasn't as good as what Gresome had curated.

Gresome went about transforming the Carrot from the rather seedy and rundown state Bilter kept it in. He turn the business into one that was rather welcoming to travelers, known for its rather rustic and delicious menus, and a safe place to bed down for a night or for a month. Soon, it became a well-known destination for caravan companies, traveling adventurers, and members of the Grand Order of the Lion. The latter adopting the bar as a frequent place to come to celebrate after sporting events or attending shows in the nearby entertainment district. Gresome welcomes the Lions as it helps keep ruffians to a minimum and ensures a steady income from the well-paid soldiers. However; this has given the Carrot a reputation as a "Lion's Bar" and certainly put off members of the Kreastos, especially those in the constabulary and army.
