Magitech

Magic in the machine

Few other creations can match the impact and influence of Magitech. Created from a combination of mechanical engineering and enchanting, Magitech is any technology that uses, and is powered by, Aether, which covers the majority of all advanced technology used throughout Taeva. Because it draws its power from Aether, Magitech has allowed many people who otherwise have no ability to use magic to accomplish those same functions for a variety of tasks, from transportation to communication to industrial work.

Utility

Magitech is very versatile, and is used in such fields as transportation, communication, and security. Since Magitech was originally created to allow non-mages to make use of Aether, many of its functions are similar to most spells used by mages.

Manufacturing

The creation of any sort of Magitech requires a dual effort between engineers and mages. The engineers create and piece together the mechanical components of the machine, while the mages install the Aetherite crystal that acts as the power source, and tune it to distribute Aether throughout the machine to achieve the desired function.
Children Technologies
Inventor(s)
While no details exist on who specifically invented Magitech, it's generally agreed on that the Gnomes played the biggest role in its creation.
Access & Availability
While Magitech has become much more accessible to the general public, it's still complex and costly enough to only really be afforded by governments, powerful factions, or wealthy individuals. Additionally, there are certain limits on what kind of Magitech can be given to what people, with the local governments having the final say on such matters.
Complexity
Due to being powered by Aether, as well as using it to perform most of its functions, the creation of Magitech is massively complex, requiring experts in magic and engineering to construct.
Discovery
For as long as anyone can remember, there has existed individuals who could wield Aether to create what is now known as magic, though only a select few had the a inborn ability to do so. Naturally, there were many who sought to circumvent this restriction and make magic and its benefits more accessible to non-mages, with the first such attempt resulting in the creation of the art of enchanting, which formed the basis of early Magitech.
