Skat'ra silk Material in Tacillia | World Anvil

Skat'ra silk

Skat'ra trading is dependent on selling silk and ramie. There isn’t anything else in the plains that they can produce. The income at the Thrill Hill is only a small portion of the skat’ra economy. The majority comes from selling the fabrics. That’s why the crazed princess, Tered’Gaya caused such a havoc.

Silk and ramie are produced in other parts of Tacillia, too, not just at the skat’ra, but their quality is the best and highly sought among other races. There is a trading company, called the Silk Syndicate which handles all the trades connected to the fabrics, the skat’ra make.

The ramie is made from unique leaves which grow next to the Krenzo river. Usually, the climate on the plains is not ideal for the plants, but there is a moist reach micro-climate near the river, which makes it a perfect place. The plants are harvested twice a year, giving ample work for the weaver workers to handle the plants and make ramie from them. Both the type of plant they use and the process which creates the ramie is a trade and skat’ra secret, and warriors protect the workers every minute.

The silk creation process is even more secret if this is possible. The base material comes from caterpillars, but that’s all anyone knows. The security and protection of the workers are even tighter than for the ramie, and no one worker knows the whole process. Specialized workers do only one step in the entire process. What comes out of their mandibles goes to another part of the hill or even another hill. The next step is done there again by specialized workers. A few queens probably supervise the whole process, but nobody knows for sure. Not even the leaders of the Silk Syndicate. The silk quality that the skat’ra weavers are making is so high that it is in a class of its own. It is known in the market as skat’ra silk.
Just once, I want to get my hands on a little skat’ra silk, and I’ll make a fortune from it
