Laws of Magic

Magic is a centuries old, multi-disciplinary field. It encompasses many fields, including but not limited to: Mathematics, Anatomy, Pathology, and Geography. But, any good magician will tell you that the Laws are the first doorway to this behemoth of information.

The Laws

A lot of heated discussion goes on about the laws that govern this rigid “art” or field, but over the years through many scholarly studies and experiments, several laws have been proven:

  1. All people have Reserve Mana, often varying in amounts
  2. Free Mana—mana existing outside of sentient people—is a prerequisite for all kinds of life to thrive in a particular area
  3. Upon depletion of free mana in a given area, people will expend their reserve mana at a rate proportional to their heart rate and body mass
  4. All spells—any form of magic that gives immediate results—use free and reserve mana simultaneously and in different proportions; but not all forms of magic use both reserve and free mana
  5. Damage incurred from casting magic in succession is multiplicative, not additive—i.e. damage from one spell will amplify the ongoing damages from previous magic
  6. Physical damage from casting will not amplify mental(or psychological) damage, and vice versa
  7. As a general rule, forms of magic that take long periods to manifest will cause long-term damage on the caster, and the opposite is true

Many of these laws can only be taken into consideration when the caster is not using a Wand of Sabrima—though Sabrimian wands have their own calculations and rules for casting, a lot of us here in the institution believe that overwhelming our students with unnecessary and very exceptional cases is not the right approach to make learning Magic enjoyable.
