Turak

Basic Information

Anatomy

Turak are small, bipedal reptilian humanoids. Most stand around 3 feet tall and weigh about 35 pounds. They have powerful jaws for creatures of their size and noticeable claws on their hands and feet. Often Turaks' faces are curiously devoid of expression, as they favor showing their emotions by simply swishing their tails. Turaks' thick hides vary in color, and most have scales that match the hue of one of the varieties of chromatic dragons, with green scales being predominant. A few Turak, however, have more exotic colors such as orange or yellow.

Ecology and Habitats

They are very adaptable, though they prefer living in a colder environment. They have cities in many parts of Taaro. Many of their towns are underground, with the homes being close to the surface(from the outside it would appear like a small mound), and a large number of tunnels that go from structure to structure.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Turak are omnivorous, though they will almost always prefer meat to any other food.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Turak are very loyal to a select few, this often includes their family and village. The elders of each village have a say in the goings on, but younger Turak can challenge their elders to fight for their political power.   While squabbles and feuds do occur, the elders who rule Turak communities tend to settle such conflicts swiftly. They are also proud and practical, and often end up bowing to more powerful beings. If these creatures are of another humanoid race, Turak often scheme to free themselves from subjugation as soon as possible.   Turak villages are usually covered in snow, with a number of holes leading to each family's burrow under the surface. Since most Turak are not a fan of outsiders, they have no accommodations for people larger than themselves. In addition they are also very loyal, especially of family groups, and will almost always treat any offense against a family member as a personal attack. On a similar note they can also be very prideful, their determination can lead them to get agitated quickly when someone insults their work.   More traveled Turak are usually quite different from those on the mainland, they are much more mello and less quick to anger. Though one trait that remains steadfast is their loyalty, they will still fircely protect anyone they consider to be one of their own.   Religiously they are almost all followers of Vrashva to some degree. That in combination to the repeated invasions of the Dominion in the past has left most people to dislike them, leaving little room for them in the cities of the mainland. Any that do stay are usually wandering mercenaries, hermits, or something like that.
