High Queen Thyrke Hex-Eye Himinndottir, The Questioner (a.k.a. Fast Blade, Headsplitter, Assassinbane, The Quick, Log Dropper, The Avalanche, Wave Cutter, The Wayfinder, The Deft)

Until recently the "Northern Cold Lands" were mainly inhabited by fractious kingships and tribal clans; constantly squabbling with each other and fighting over small sections of land upon which they herded tiny sheep and cattle on bits of coastline from which to launch fishing craft and raiding vessels.   In 1620, that all changed.
A Seventeen Year Old with incredible combat skill and a stubborn sense of ambition arose from the common folk; a young woman from a tiny village near what would become Sidhofn who swore that ALL would bend the knee to her... and that SHE would bend the knee ONLY to The Gods!
Within a single year her charisma and inhuman combat skill allowed her to sweep from the tip of the Peninsula to its base.   She broke treaties with the Kandia, pushed them out of the northernmost Gler Eyland, (Glass Island) conquered the Heavy Wood and pushed out the remaining dissenters!
Her intelligence and force of personality led her to win battle after battle with craft and deception rather than strength and, when called out individually, she was sure to show all that she did not lack in the latter attribute.   After two more years of Consolidation, Rehabilitation, Reconciliation and Outright Intimidation, this young woman unified the northern cultures and reformed the fashion in which they prayed to the gods.
Before too long... all would know her as High Queen Thyrke Himinndottir.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

An Imposing blond woman of six and a half feet tall, bristling with practical musculature, Thyrke Hex-Eye Himmindottir is the product of her culture and a hard upbringing of travel and physical labor; a typical "viking woman," something akin to a valkyrie to look upon!   Only subtly scarred from her many adventures, Thyrke possesses a clear dexterity that stands in opposition to her size; able to easily clear distance to her opponents and weave between battlefield dangers with practiced grace and skill.   Remarkably calm, even under pressure; Thyrke carries herself with a loose, relaxed demeanor even in combat, which drives others to think that all the world's challenges are effortless to her.

Facial Features

Thyrke's Face is one that cannot be easily forgotten.
With one eye of deepest forest green and the other a brilliant, vibrant blue; Thyrke is obvious in a crowd even beyond her great height and musculature.   Her forehead bears a small horizontal scar from her childhood; from when she was attacked by a lynx while she was hunting.
Over it all, Thyrke's Strawberry blond hair is not unusual within her own culture but the care and length of it is particularly noteworthy; making Thyrke easy to point out in a strange land with her long, noble braids.   The rest of her face is remarkably typical for a Sidhofn grown woman; roundish features with non-prominent cheekbones and a straight, thin nose.
While many Vaennlandrs tend to have thin lips, Thyrke's own are naturally plump and pouting and her cheeks have a natural rosiness to them that most cultures find attractive in fair skinned women.

Special abilities

Having learned directly under the gods of Vaennland and being taught by many elven sorcerers, Thyrke is no stranger to magic and has many magical tricks up her sleeve that she uses in her day to day.
She may use her mind to pull objects to her in combat; such as her axe if she is disarmed.
She can nullify any toxin in any beverage she gets her hands on. (And has scoffed in the face of many poisoners)
Thyrke has and will regularly produce weapons from thin air to throw at her enemies; such as axes, knives, spears and hammers!
While she cannot UNDERSTAND animals, Thyrke loves them and seems to be able to make them understand HER regardless of their species or origin.   Many believe that Thyrke's eyes allow her some special sight... and they're right!
Or at least right enough...
Thyrke's eyes, with the aid of adrenaline, can briefly see into the future.
While this is only a half second of precognition and only works when her blood is pumping, it allows her to see her enemy's movements before they happen; giving her an edge in combat against all but the fastest of foes.
These premonitions generally take the form of a ghostly white outline of her enemies that act ahead of their more colorful and solid counterparts.
Importantly, this ability allows her to "feel" things before they hit her, accompanied by a ghostly white flash in her vision; Letting her defend against attacks from outside of her direct view.   Thyrke's throwing arm is FAR stronger than a normal human's.
Capable of propelling a weapon across the field at up to 250 Miles an hour to brutally drive it into and even through a helmeted head; the High Queen has been known to summon an axe and drive it into a target 40 yards away in the same second with pinpoint precision.

Apparel & Accessories

Like many of her kin, Thyrke typically wears rather plain trousers and tunics; marking her wealth by the amount of swag she has on her and the quality of care she spares for her personal hygiene.
Despite her appreciation of simple clothing, Thyrke has been known to wear fantastic and intricate outfits prepared by Elven tailors in the Alfholt style on extremely rare occassions when political intrigue requires it!   However, having come from humble beginnings, Thyrke doesn't see much need for fancy clothing outside of diplomatic circumstances.
Instead she prefers what is comfortable and practical; regularly scoffing at aristocratic articles like The Kandia Timbo for its clunkiness, preparation time and lack of ease of movement!   When in combat, of course, Thyrke wears the stock and trade of her people; riveted chain with small plates over her chest and legs for basic protection.
However, unlike the much more landbound Kandia, most Vaennlandrs like Thyrke prefer having somewhat lighter, more minimalistic armor for their many raids along the coasts and up and down the rivers of the rest of the continent!
So, while on open water as she raids the coasts of Kanda, Thyrke might well simply settle for gambeson and leathers!

Specialized Equipment

While Thyrke doesn't tend to have special named weapons or fantastical suits of armor that stand apart from her kin, she DOES carry a Harmonica Gun just as the rest of her Dynjavordr do!
Since Isis has introduced her people to firearms, Thyrke has fallen in love with the uptime weapons!
Suitably, Thyrke also carries five Harmonicas with ten shots a piece wherever she goes just as all of her most elite do.

Education

Growing up Thyrke had little in the way of a formal education as one might receive in Kanda.
Her mother was a poor, single woman raising a rambunctious, fatherless daughter who refused to listen and would never help with the weaving.   Instead Thyrke's education was more practical!
Like many of her culture she grew up learning to mind the fields, tend to the animals and had all the opportunity in the world to cultivate a love of swinging swords and sailing around the fjords and bays of her homeland!
While perhaps she never attracted the greatest and most skilled attention, Thyrke's budding talents did not go unnoticed and by the time she was six she had been functionally adopted by the lord of the area that would eventually become Sidhofn; a diehard Kandiaphile and enthusiast of all manner of fighting styles.
Though he was not personally the best warrior, he had many books and taught her to read the many fighting manuals that could be found in Kanda; all of which he had bought at great cost to his personal coffers.
Learning the value of reading taught her the importance of organization... of planning and of using her intellect over her natural brawn.   Growing fast on a constant diet of beef, fish, cheese, root vegetables and legumes for much of her childhood, by ten Thyrke was already learning how to handle and construct longships to visit the Ducky and Gleyr Isles and do trade alongside her Adopted Father while her mother stayed at home and manned the farms and slaves.
Adventure took her to many different ports and her father taught her the value of bargaining, the importance of understanding many languages and, most importantly, how to love the open ocean and the feel of the waves under her.
She was taught that the sea... is freedom!   At around 13, having personally experienced the contempt of the Kandia toward her people, she began researching her lands from a physical perspective, sailing around the shores to talk to as many people as possible; to find out why everyone was fighting, what they did for a living and how each section of the peninsula managed the problems that everyone faced.
During this time she gained a working understanding of the many cultural aspects of what would become the nation of Vaennland; how people talked, the different dialects in the language, the different traditions and how people prayed to the gods and asked them for their favor...
How they could best get along with each other...   Finally, at around 15, Thyrke learned of The Gods... traveling the highest mountains in the Peninsula to personally petition the greatest ranking deities in the land... and request their permission to unify the people... to stand as a single, glorious culture the likes of which would rival Kanda and put them on the map!
To Her Surprise... The Gods Each Agreed In Turn!
And so, for two more years, wherever she traveled, the gods of Vaennland taught her magic, deception, seduction and great leadership skills the likes of which could be instructed by no currently living mortal.   Done with her education by 17, schooled by life alone and having never seen the inside of a formal learning institution, Thyrke was ready to unify the peninsula and found Vaennland.   Since The Complete Unification Of Vaennland roughly 10 years ago, Thyrke has gone out of her way to educate herself and to bring as many tutors as she can into the court to ensure that she is able to keep her mind keen and ahead of world events.
Her most recent private tutor, an aged elf named Cian (Key-On), was transported from Alfholt at great cost to the royal purse but has proven to be a necessary advisor and teacher in the past three years.
Being particularly diverse in his knowledge even among his own kind, Cian has been able to teach Thyrke many aspects of Elven culture, including how to master the Elven tongue in all its complexity!   Since the arrival of Isis Smith: The Father Of War, Thyrke's Education has begun to extend into modern skills!
Already having learned to speak Modern English with a heavy accent, Thyrke has taken quite an interest in technologies concerning modern infrastructure and food production; seeking to make her nation more comfortable for the common folk, that they might be able to become stronger as a culture and overtake the prejudice of other "More Civilized" Realms.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Thyrke is singlehandedly the first and only northerner to unify the Peninsula!
Since Kanda began trading with northern tribes almost a thousand years ago in an effort to crush the Salvinia between them they have labeled the northern people as Darobia because they lack order and Kandia infrastructure.   THAT changed with Thyrke Himinndottir!
-She laid out a doctrine of resistance to Kandia Influence as a foundation of her rule!
-She personally solved ALL disputes and settled ALL scores to bring every tribe and territory under her sway!
-She reformed and/or overthrew EVERY Sect and Cult who did not fit with the new order of prayer and reverence and established herself as the Temporal Leader Of The Mortal Link To The Northern Divine Bureaucracy!
-She personally rewrote the ENTIRE law structure to ensure that all places in Vaennland would follow the same creed!
-She constructed a great fleet in defense of the islands and for northern expansion into the eastern ocean!
-And she reformed the ENTIRE LANGUAGE GROUP into a contiguous, more or less standardized central tongue that is now taught to all people in order to construct a literate, potentially well-read society!     While these are merely Thyrke's most publicly available accomplishments, she's also known for many much smaller achievements:
-Designed the royal road network
-Maintains a civilian beekeepers core
-Standardized all weights and measures
-Adopted certain Kandia methods of logistics
-Adopted An Altered Form Of The Kandia Calendar At The Behest Of Isis Smith
-Designed a new longship specifically intended for deep water exploration (Of which she has 92 after her return from The New World)
-Established a central Vaennland Military with a standard kit regardless of station
-Constructed a system of children's schools to encourage literacy and practical education like fighting, weaving, sailing, building and progressive farming (as taught by the Elves)
-Officially Inaugurated A Policy Of Mutual Trade, Co-Exploration And Research Relations With The Marca Isles, Wing Island And The Pro Simian Confederacy
-Opened The Borders Of Alfholt To A Non-Elf For The First Time In Over Four Hundred Years   Thyrke shows NO signs of slowing down; not even yet thirty and already having born witness to the arrival of Isis Smith: The Father Of War And First Reincarnated Founder Of Kanda to return to the world!
Having forged an EXTREMELY deep bond with her; Thyrke has traveled across the eastern ocean with Isis to prove to "The Sky Father" that there exists a habitable land beyond and that The Father Of War (Alongside Thyrke As Her Wife!) has the power and Authority to demand respect from Vaennland's Gods and mend the centuries long "Northern Schism" between the Vaennlandrs and Kanda!   To top it all off, Thyrke has recently become a mother, having her baby in the new world and traveling back across the waves with little Kara and so many other gifts from across the water!
To her great delight, Kara has been named a sacred child and the people have flocked around Thyrke and her family for such an accomplishment as having the first Vaennlandr child to be born in The New World!

Intellectual Characteristics

Despite having had very little in the way of Formal Education until her adulthood, Thyrke is nothing short of a genius; with the keen ability to pick up information quickly and retain it for long periods of time after only seeing or hearing it once.
Fluently speaking over ten mortal languages and at least three divine languages, Thyrke is regarded by her contemporaries as "She Who Requires No Translator."   Perhaps most germane to her keen mind is her most common regnal nickname: The Questioner.
While the Scientific Method does not yet exist as a functioning set of fields in Ta Mando, Thyrke may have been on the path to independently inventing it before the reintroduction of Primes into the world.
Having cultivated a reputation as a strong skeptic, Thyrke has always ruled with questions in mind and if someone makes an affirmative claim she regularly demands they prove it!
A man claiming to be able to throw a 250 mph fastball would be given a hundred balls to throw... and would be forced at spearpoint to throw them until he succeeded or admitted he is unable to deliver upon his claims.   To Thyrke, that which is required is always proof!
If you can't SHOW it... she has no reason to believe you.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Thyrke's most primary motivations lie in making Vaennland a world power and putting her nation on the map of all other realms that refer to themselves as "Civilized."
Having personally experienced the Kandia's contempt for her people firsthand, Thyrke desires to make the North into an empire that can force Kanda into respecting their sovereignty and civility.   No longer will clans of the north to be allowed to fight over the color of the sky on any given day, nor will she permit the laws of any single clan to supplant the laws of the entirety of Vaennland!
As High Queen, Thyrke is a ruler that presides over other rulers, just as the great imperial leaders of the rest of the world do!
Her desire is to REMAIN Northern while also "Modernizing" as the "Civilized" Realms of the world have.   In Short... what Thyrke Desires is a Realm of Vaennlandr Culture with Global Technology!

Personality Quirks

Thyrke is often full of nervous energy and has been known to incessantly tap her feet, fingers and knuckles against things even during important meetings and diplomatic events.
While this does not, in any way, reflect her mood it often leads her vassals and potential allies to the conclusion that she's impatient or displeased with them.   So notorious is the High Queen's restlessness that she is well known to have little patience for sitting down during lessons and lectures; requiring her tutors and attendants to follow her around at a feverish pace while she seeks to relieve herself of the hyperkinesis that so plagues her.

Hygiene

Like most Vaennlandrs, Thyrke is a fastidious groomer; always making sure her hair is properly braided, her clothes are clean and that she appears as a proper High Queen!
Regularly attended by handmaids and servants to mind her appearance, Thyrke bathes every other night when she can; possessing an ornate steel tub from Eldin which she alone is allowed to enjoy.   Unlike many high lords and ladies of Vaennland, Thyrke does not spend on frivolous perfumes and powders, instead preferring to let her own natural beauty shine through.
While Thyrke has recently been encouraged by Isis Smith to invest in a small but functional unit of soapmakers in The Capital that she might enjoy more southerly cleanliness, she is as of yet, unconvinced of the efficacy of southern soaps and is waiting impatiently for the proper aging of this product before she makes her final decision on whether or not it belongs in her culture.

Reign

Thyrke began her reign in 1620; a plucky seventeen year old claiming to have been sent by the gods on an unstoppable path toward uniting the entirety of Vaennland!
Even within her tiny little hold in Sidhofn she kept the loyalty of her men and, over two years, swept across the length of the peninsula; cowing all those who would bend the knee and destroying any who would not.   While otherwise completely uncompromising when it comes to her authority over Vaennland, Thyrke is a remarkably egalitarian leader; caring little for station or pedigree and promoting her commanders based SOLELY on merit and performance!
She regularly listens to the common people and respects their local rules and regulations; merely requesting from them her own due in tax every year as befits what they have and make.
Fair and Just, Thyrke has presided over many trials and moots; breaking feuds, making pacts between previous enemies and learning many languages to facilitate the peace of her nation.
None can challenge the wisdom of her rule over the people of Vaennland proper!   Believing firmly that nobody will be ruled for long by one who cannot at least speak to them in their own tongue, Thyrke has done as much as she can to learn as many languages as possible; typically entering a village or town and addressing the people in the language of the locals rather than using the newly centralized Vaennlandr tongue.
Due to this decision, Thyrke has encouraged many to learn the central tongue, establishing it as a regal tongue for ALL people; above but NOT apart!
When she comes to anyone's home she speaks to them as they would speak to her... but if they come to her hall... they know they must show her the same respect!
What was once the language of just a little spit of land now called Sidhofn at the end of the peninsula is now the language of the law!
It Is NOW The Language Of The Realm!   During Thyrke's reign a major change has been made in that The Vaennlandrs no longer trade with the Empire Of Kanda!
ONLY if the Kandia acknowledge Vaennland as a "Civilized" Nation will they consider opening their borders to Kandia trade and stop the summer raids that the Kandia so chafe under!
While the lack of Kandia grain flowing into her borders has caused some hungry winters, the Vaennlandrs are a self sufficient and resourceful people who have since recovered from this brief famine.
While the arrival of Isis Smith: The Father Of War has done a lot to thaw the relations between the two powers, Thyrke has not yet given the order to stop the raids and resume the trading... especially with her most recent connections with The Pro Simian Confederacy; who have, as a matter of principle, treated her far better than ANY Kandia before Isis!
And So... Vaennland Remains Independent From And In A Sort Of Cold War With Kanda...   While Thyrke has made certain resignations in the advancement of her culture, like needing a proper sewage system, better farming methods and better building standards, she has not simply bent the knee to Kandia Standard.
Instead, to diffentiate herself from the other leaders of the world, she has undergone significant education under Isis Smith to produce an entirely new system loosely based off of more modern models!   First and foremost, Thyrke has instituted a professional military just as Kanda, called the "Hylli Kerfi." (Allegiance System)
Like the Kandia Leconia in strict principle, the "Hollrfolk" (Loyal People) are a professional force of well trained, armed and armored soldiers that are contracted to work for no less than five years.
The difference between the Leconia and the Hollrfolk is that the latter are an entirely volunteer force!
Trained in a standard not much different from the US Army, the Hollrfolk are a centralized force that exists for Vaennland alone and is armed, armored and trained just as well as any of their Kandia Counterparts, if perhaps better!
The Most Elite of her professional military are the "Dynjavordr," five hundred firearm wielding soldiers who answer only to Thyrke And Isis.   One of the most significant events in Thyrke's reign has been the enfranchisement of the common people.
Vaennland's access to the world, and thus its economy, is one deeply shaped by its geography; its many fjords and inlets allowing the common people (like Thyrke herself once was!) to move wherever they like to do business and trade, unburdened by aristocratic lords and clan leaders who cannot properly "control" the sea.
The long, harsh winters of the peninsula have also heavily encouraged a storage economy, wherein good times are merely seen as a chance to prepare for the inevitable bad times; at which juncture people might share with their neighbors and ensure that the community as a whole, governed by the community at large, is stable and properly functioning even at the worst of times.
Because of this, Vaennland has incredibly self sufficient and sometimes outright independent peasantry; the lowest classes already possessing a form of power over their lives and land unseen at their station anywhere else in Ta Mando!
So, to avoid having to tackle with the squabbling and manipulations of the aristocracy (Who themselves merely desire to control the layfolk) as so many other monarchs must... Thyrke has instead empowered the peasantry to manage their own affairs; the ancestral, regional traditions that have kept the people alive for centuries being the backbone of any given section of her empire and maintained on the principle of permanence and function rather than for private parties individually pursuing personal profit!
The Aristocrats of Vaennland are no longer disparate clan leaders feuding against each other for huge tracts of land...
NOW they are a united under a single political system... Of Vaennlandrs!
Each and every one of them, together, is part of something bigger; small farmers that stand alongside each other to maintain a single national entity.
And if any given clan will not put down their spears and settle their feuds then Thyrke will settle it for them; for the good of society as a whole!
And, fortunately for her, this has worked to hold the Aristocrats in check so that they may not threaten her position as ruler.   At every stage of her reign Thyrke has labeled herself as "Just Another Vaennlandr."
While she is a powerful, intimidating, genius figure, she stands apart from the other tribal and feudal lords and even from Kanda in that she is never content with waiting for problems to present themselves but rather hunts them down and makes proactive, positive solutions alongside her people to ensure that problems do not arise again.
Having grown up exploring the fjords and mountains, forests and coastlines of this land and learning to know them like nobody else can, Thyrke has made it precedent in her rule to care far more about expanding rights and luxuries to all Vaennlandrs than to gaining new land or seeking personal glory.
In her reign thus far the average Vaennlandr has more wood during the winter, better harvests in the autumn and more coordinated hunts in the summer.
Regional Tutors travel the lands to teach children and adults alike so that ALL may read Sa Albok (The All-Book) and may benefit from the understanding and traditions of all others within Vaennland.
While others lust after lands they cannot have... Thyrke only desires for her people to grow strong and independent.
She desires to make what she has into a recognized world power...   And That Requires Not More Conquest...
But Rather Consolidation And Education Of The Common Folk!

Contacts & Relations

While Thyrke dragged Vaennland kicking and screaming into an age of isolationism, she also brought them out of it!   With now constant communication and travel between Alfholt and Vaennland, Thyrke has worked hard to endear herself to The World's Last Stronghold Of The Elves; believing that they are better served joining Vaennland than letting themselves die off in apathy and ennui.
While they are still cold on official channels, many younger elves have since moved to Vaennland to help educate and tutor various nobles or, on occassion, entire communities.
Well paid and appreciated by all, Thyrke's recent inroads with the Pro Simian Confederates have impressed The Elves and soon Thyrke seeks to address the Elven Council personally alongside a Pro Simian Caravan that will be traveling to Alfholt's Capital in the near future.   The most recent and fastest growing contacts in Thyrke's list, however, are the Monkes of the Pro Simian Confederacy and the people of the Marca Isles!
Both Vaennland and The Marca Isles have been contacted specifically for their understanding of naval engineering and travel, which is NOT a well practiced set of technologies for the Monkes.
Understanding this, The Pro Simian Confederacy reached out to Thyrke and entered into a mutual research pact with her and the Marca People!
Now invited to Bandari Ya Watu Wote; The Port Of All People and only port city in all of The Confederacy, Vaennlandr shipwrights, carpenters, fishermen, seacraft specialists and navigators ply the dangerous waters southward, beyond the farthest reaches of Kandia ships to design entirely new craft the likes of which have never been seen in all of Ta Mando's History!   Attracted by their skeptical mindset, their hard bargaining culture, their skill at managing the open ocean and their tendency to enforce rules on The Kandia instead of the other way around, Thyrke has found herself unable to dislike the Marcia people!
While she had never heard of them before the pact with the Pro Simian Confederacy, she consistently finds nothing to complain about when she hears about the Marcia and their extremely egalitarian philosophies... and through them she hears about The Spirit Islanders... who she feels she does NOT like at all...
In hopes that her people might enjoy some of the world's finer products, Thyrke has set up trade agreements with the Marca Isles so that they might exchange northerly products for tropical products and vice versa... and verse vice-a.

Religious Views

To many in her culture the gods are not some great figures of worship.
They are simply incredibly powerful beings that MUST be respected.
The people of Vaennland do not need to make sacrifices to them or pray to them daily.
They don't even have to LIKE them!   However, no matter what one feels about the gods, they MUST respect the divine!
The gods of Vaennland, while respecting the Divine Bureaucracy over almost all things, otherwise live their lives to the fullest and care nothing for the mortals that get in their way.
Indeed it is a great cultural note that all mortals are trying to protect themselves against the gods and their whims; the power of their very most mild fancies being able to bring upon storms and earthquakes, their competitions against each other bringing complete and total cataclysm if they so desire!
To the average Vaennlandr the gods are TRULY forces of nature and mortals are best served trying not to bother them or get in their way.   Thyrke was never average!
From her youth she was obsessed with the deities of Vaennland and their strange, divine Bureaucracy!
She wanted to be like them, to become one of them!
She grew feverishly reverent of their desires and eventually went to serve them personally; to receive more of their power and use it for the betterment of her people!
And then, learning under them personally, she grew TERRIFIED of them; of their great and mighty power, such that they could undo her with the blink of an eye.

She fought back; unseating the Sky Father that Thyrke had so revered!   And, in an ultimate battle that shook the land for tens of miles in every direction and toppled the very mountains atop which they'd sat... Isis Smith slew the Sky Father and consumed his power.
In that moment she took his place in the Divine Bureaucracy and bid ALL OBEY HER!   ... And When They Did...

Hobbies & Pets

Thyrke has nothing that could explicitly be called a "Pet," though her Kennelmaster oversees an impressive pack of over four hundred hunting dogs which are cared for by a hundred apprentices.   The High Queen has also constructed a communication network similar to the Kandia wherein Magpies are used as messenger birds.
Just a short distance from her Fortress-Palace is a rookery holding no less than ten thousand birds!
These birds, in turn, are cared for by a thousand servants tasked with maintaining and breeding the population.
Many of these Magpies actively chatter at people with human speech when they want attention; saying hello, begging for food, calling out names, whistling and mimicking people's voices who they have seen get attention quickly.
Nearly a hundred magpies can and do regularly bark out orders in unison in Thyrke's voice, which the monarch finds hilarious.   Sixteen Cats live in Thyrke's Palace; all of which alternate in neverending shifts at clearing out all rats and other such vermin from within the walls.
While she will pet them and some may even sit on her lap or sleep at the foot of her bed from time to time Thyrke does not consider these animals pets.
Like her dogs or her magpies they are working animals that act as staff under her; not pets.
As with every animal in Thyrke's Realm, they too are her subjects!

As the High Queen of Vaennland, Thyrke is hilariously wealthy; gathering yearly taxes and even some tribute from her many subjects and managing her coffers with the sort of frugality normally reserved only for paranoid scurrilia and scheming spymasters.
In her own dungeons she has a room full near to the brim with gold, silver and other riches that she specifically uses to house the greatest of thieves and deceivers; surrounded by what they want most, only to be killed with it, unable to bring it with them.   Indeed Thyrke's wealth continues to grow, with every raid into outside lands required to pay a fiftieth of their haul to the crown, which in turn stocks them with spears, swords, armor and other basic expenses when it comes time again for the following year's summer raids. (A Pittance Compared To What The Raids Normally Bring In!)   Moreover, upon her return Thyrke has made great trade deals with The Pro Simian Confederacy; Vaennland existing as the one and only nation with access to The New World and all too many plans to return as soon as possible!
The Confederates' desire to help the Vaennlandrs discover a hypothetical cocoa route through The New World has given many Vaennlandrs the amazing opportunity to work together with them on a grand fleet that the monkes plan to use to explore the world and protect their jungle home.
Both parties are all but certain that this and several other agreements made will serve them both in the future.
