As the sun rises and brings a new day, so too does it bring a new chance for justice.— Garvan Deawen, Just Sun Preacher
The Church of the Just Sun is a religious order based in north-eastern Yutromorch. Dedicated to the worship of the sun deity
Yisair, it is the state religion of
Isachir and only somewhat tolerated in
Be'arist countries.
History
Though worship of Yisair is said to date back to before the formation of Yutromorch, the Church of the Just Sun is a far more recent development. In the year
7670, a group of adherents from across the north and east met together in the town of Valagen to discuss the tenets of their faith and how best to work together. This meeting resulted in the creation of the Church of the Just Sun, merging the various forms of Yisair worship together.
This merger has not always been peaceful or easy, as disagreements arose over specific tenets. The most aggressive of these arguments, over whether the rival deity Be'ari was dead, resulted in the splitting off of the Eclipsing Church. This group's extreme stances led them to fall out of favour with many of the governments of the northeast, while the Just Sun was able to curry favour easily with politicians and bring many in their congregation. With many years of hard work with these individuals, the Just Sun was declared the foremost branch of Yisair worship in Isachir, and the country's state religion.
Recognition of this magnitude came at a cost, as the Just Sun
and Eclipsing Church were subsequently banned from opening churches in the Be'arist country of
Naonad, for fear that they would import Isachir's hatred of that country with them. Aside from individual congregations finding loopholes, the Just Sun has let the ban stand and made no effort to lift it, taking the stance that willing followers of Yisair need only move and 'find the sun'. Its leaders have made proactive steps to prevent similar bans in other countries, and have been mostly successful.
Beliefs
The Church of the Just Sun has only a few basic beliefs, mostly regarding Yisair and Be'ari and the nature of their conflict. For the Just Sun, Yisair was always righteous in their opposition to Be'ari's influence, and they actually had the upper hand over the earth god in terms of raw strength. In contrast to their rivals in the
Church of the Blessed Heart, Just Sun believes that Be'ari pulling their
heart from their chest to give to the
duanam was fundamentally sacrificial, and came about from the god recognising they could never defeat Yisair fairly.
Though they despise the god, the magic granted by their heart is important for the Just Sun, which they rationalise as turning Be'ari's power back on itself. That they are often unable to access much of its power due to the actions of the country of Naonad and the Church of the Blessed Heart is what fuels much of their modern enmity.
