It isn't called a heart for nothing. It's not just the center of a god - its the beating heart of all life in the world!— Soras Je'Vinn
Be'ari's Heart is an enormous crystal, which floats at the center of
Yutromorch. In the myths of the region, the crystal is the heart of the titular
Be'ari, a powerful earth god whose body forms the land around the crystal.
History
Originally this large crystal was in the body of Be'ari, and served to power them and their
magic, which they used to create the
duanam and the land they lived on. Most crucially, their magic was used to defend the duanam from the sun deity
Yisair, who would cast fire down to destroy everything.
After many ages of struggle between the two, Be'ari decided to take drastic action. Gathering the duanam to them, they removed the glowing crystal from their chest and gave it to the people, entrusting them to use its powers to defend themselves. With this crystal, Yisair was defeated, and prevented from hurting the duanam for many many ages. However, this act also wounded Be'ari, whose collapsed body formed Yutromorch.
The duanam entrusted with the crystal tried to return it to the earth god, by placing it in the centre of
the caldera that marked where it had been removed. It has remained there to this day, floating just above the surface of a rainwater lake which has slowly filled the hole.
Far from floating idly without purpose, Be'ari's Heart continues to power all forms of magic throughout Yutromorch - a magic which is commonly believed to be more potent or accessible the closer you get to the Heart. As a result, many wars and conflicts have been fought over control of the giant crystal, and it is currently under the control of
Naonad and under the religious authority of the
Church of the Blessed Heart.
Properties
Be'ari's Heart is larger than any building or monument, towering over the lake and nearby settlements. It is a pale lilac colour, with magenta shadows and a bright glow. It hovers about a metre above the surface of the lake, close enough to be touched by those rowing underneath. It does not move or react to contact, nor does it sway in the breeze.
More important than its aesthetic qualities are its magical ones. The crystal acts as the source of all magic in the region, emanating an aura which reacts with other crystal shards throughout Yutromorch. This aura can be manipulated into many different forms, ranging from creating fire to teleporting matter. Magic increases in potency the closer you get to the Heart, allowing for miraculous and dangerous events. This aura occasionally pulses, much like a heart would beat, causing spikes in magic intensity.
