Capital of the Kingdom of Thaur

Lush fields, magnificent biodiversity and the meeting of the Delta of Many Birds with the ocean characterize the surroundings of Birdland, a city that started as a busy merchant town and grew to become the capital of the Kingdom of Thaur when it replaced the fallen Kingdom of Merthiorn after the High Rust.
Before the Rust, Birdland was already growing at high speed, being one of the biggest cities in its Island, and moving the biggest amount of income in and out of Merthiorn.

Birdland benefits for its perfect location, being next to the fertile Delta and to the point of the sea closest to the islands of Dhalmain, Stunveldt and Ruh.

Its name comes, of course, for the abundance of birds in and around it, coming both from the delta and the beautiful plains to the west.

When the High Rust hit the archipelago in 3014 E.Alz the capital of Merthiorn was the City of Goldwaste, located atop the mountain range of the island. As with everything that stood too high over the floor, Goldwaste and its inhabitants were completely destroyed, and with it fell the kingdom.
Just two months after the death of Merthion's queen Tesel, a merchant by the name of Naelin arrived into Birdland, his home, carrying a cub of tetsu, the most dangerous creature for any societarian.

For the first time in history, people saw a tetsu that was not trying to kill every person in their eyesight, but much to the contrary he seemed to be loyal to this man.
In the desperate times of the Rust and being a headless nation, the people of Merthiorn took Naelin as a gifted person and his tetsu, called Dinner, their new protector, pledging allegiance to both.
The Kingdom of Thaur was born from this crowning, and King Naelin made Birdland the capital of it, giving the rich city the renown it deserved.

The people of Birdland work hard and play harder.
While all of Thaur is regarded as a pretty lax and open-minded culture, Birdland goes above and beyond and is famous for having the most and the better Houses of Pleasure, with the most famous being the Path of Delights Café.
Birdland also gave birth to numerous artists, including musical groups such as The Deep-Throated Auralists, actors such as Nile and Adikari, and of course the famous cartographer Danae.

While the Thaurian government is still pretty new and working with the rule of law inherited from Merthiorn, the small changes that are being made on the laws point to the relaxation and regulation of leisure markets such as recreational drug manufacturing, prostitution and other sexual markets.
Nowadays, Birdland is a bustling merchant city where one can find hot spots of leisure and arts everywhere, as its new position raises it to the top of the most important cities in the Haan Archipelago.

The Haan Archipelago

Danae by Naelin

The cartographer Danae from the City of Birdland in Thaur was commissioned to draw a map of the Haan Archipelago for the second edition of The Book of the Habits and Beasts, published in the 3rd of Birthing, 3 E.Ru.
Danae took advantage of the enclyclopaedia's team of researchers to gather precise information and went himself into research expeditions to survey remote areas. His work resulted in what is considered the most accurate and widespread map of the Archipelago to this day, which details even most of the coasts of the Savage Isles.
