Sylan

"While the mythos of most of the inhabitants of this land has falsehoods in it, it's true that a lot of it rings with fact. Thousands of years ago, there were nations on this planet who used technology to do things us now could only dream of. We know that this is a fact based on pieces of that technology that still exist: we have a few ancient weapons of that era, and in certain corners of the Tundran States, they have made it a life-goal to recreate at least some of the remaining technology used, apparently, for calculation and communication between vast distances. Of course, this same boon of this unknown race of humanoids was also their undoing; creating the 'curse' that wiped them out, theoretically created Ekrasil, and, if you believe the wives' tales, lingers in the air even to this day creating monsters in the woods and causing birth rates in both city and countryside alike to be sluggish. However, it's clear that the people since have risen up to the challenge of living in this harsh place. The people of Sylan (which means, in the tongue of elves, "Fae-born land") has steadily grown to carve nations of their own.
