The Watchtower of Agrul
The Watchtower of Agrul (from the dwarven word agruulo for southern guard) was once part of southern most dwarven fortification. As it is located in The Amber Plains near The Blue Bay , the guards stationed here could oversee the far nothingness till the edges of the Elderwoods. After the dwarves were driven out of these parts of the continent, the tower was used by the talian conquerors to warn the early settlements around Rashor of threats from the north. In the current age the watchtower was left to ruins, as there is no need for a permanent garrison in the plains anymore.
Soon after the humans arrived on the west coast of the continent, the tower was abandoned as the dwarves left for the security of their northern towns. While the border between the two races was drawn through the amber plains, talian scouts used the watchtower to guard their northern frontier. After the humans pushed further north, the fortification lost its relevance and was just used as a base for the armies passing through.
Long after the great war, as the talian empire shattered, the tower was left by the last soldiers as none of the nearby towns saw a purpose and manning the fortification anymore. Most of the buildings surrounding the watchtower crumbled in the coming centuries and soon only the tower stood alone to lonely watch over the plains.
In the last few months though, all of these explorers were not seen again and so it is rumored that some kind of foe settled down in the tower. Travelers in the tavern are warned to not venture to close to the haunted tower and no one dares anymore to even look for the lost adventures.
History
At first the tower was built on one of the taller hills of the plains near the most eastern cove of the blue bay as an outpost to watch out for dragons and other monsters of the past attacking from the south. It was the last part of a chain of towers and warning beacons constructed by the dwarves and is the only old watchtower to stand the test of time. During this time the fortification often was attacked, rebuilt and expanded and thus still shows signs long forgotten battles.Soon after the humans arrived on the west coast of the continent, the tower was abandoned as the dwarves left for the security of their northern towns. The Situation today
As the road from Rashor to the north moves near the shores of the blue bay, many travelers can see the tower on a nearby hill but most of them avoid the old structures as the ascent is long and hard. Curious adventures coming from The Maid of Agrulia, a nearby tavern on the main road, sometimes explore the tower as they look for anything old that could still be sold or used. But as the watchtower now lies barren of many centuries, nothing of worth can be found here.In the last few months though, all of these explorers were not seen again and so it is rumored that some kind of foe settled down in the tower. Travelers in the tavern are warned to not venture to close to the haunted tower and no one dares anymore to even look for the lost adventures.
