The Order of the Bloodknights

The Blood Knights, for most legends of old times, are a human brotherhood of magic using knights committed to hunting all kinds of monsters and demons. Their base of operations is in the small town of Tam on the west Coast of Tal'Lyra.

Becoming a Bloodknight

The brotherhood is a secret organization with at most twenty members. Every time a knight dies, a new one is searched and chosen by their Grandmaster, who's elected for life by his brothers. The apprentice is trained for four years by the grand master and the oldest members of the order. In this time he learns the secret magic, is taught fighting with a plethora of weapons and is educated in identifying and hunting monsters. After this long period of learning a ceremony is held, where the student chooses his weapon and is honored with becoming a knight and a master of the brotherhood.

The Duty of Hunting

A Blood knight spends most of his life wandering through Tal'Lyra looking for the next monstrous enemy. The brothers keep to themselves, travel alone and avoid towns of both dwarves and humans and only interact with other people to hear rumors and stories about their next prey. Once a bloodknight finds the trail of a monster, he follows it back to it's nest, where he attacks and kills it. Before burning the body of the slain enemy, the mysterious hunter drinks some blood of the killed monstrosity.

The Origin of the Brotherhood

The Brotherhood first formed shortly after the arrival of the humans in Tal'Lyra. In the beginning they were just normal knights, set out to cleanse the continent of it's inherent evil. Some believe they gained their magic strength from drinking monsters blood, while others suspect one the old gods to be involved. While they fought with their human brothers in the beginning of the long War, soon they noticed that the fighting distracted them from their own cause. After they withdrew from the raging war the talian emperor ostracized them and the knights were outlawed and hunted, if they revealed their true face. They went into hiding and soon settled down in a small village, today known as Tam, on the western coast. There they built their base of operations and started to act in secret to bring down the evil in Tal'Lyra. Soon after the Long War they started to recruit lyrians into their ranks, if they were chosen.

The Bloodmagic

While the magic of a bloodknight is not as versatile as the spell book of a wizard or the rituals of a druid, it excels in combat. While wizards draw their power from the well of magic and the druids siphon the magic of the earth and mountains, a bloodknight needs to drink the blood of his enemies, especially of slain monsters to channel his spells. The bloodmagic includes self healing, empowering attacks, strengthening defenses and tracking enemies. All spells come normally in three tiers, which vary in costs and effects. The most powerful bloodknights can unlock a fourth tier of their spells, which is told to be extremely powerful.
