The All-Night Feast

The All-Night Feast is an annual event in Milgram tied to the first full moon after the summer solstice. At this time of year, two large species of fish, cara and lipspun, are swimming past the coastal city on their way to spawn.    During the day, citizens and visitors to Milgram looking to celebrate are generally divided into three big tasks -- fishing and fishing support, preparing the city center for the influx of cookery and seating for the nocturnal feat, and/or stopping at the small temple of Eterra, god of the moon, to give thanks for the regular tides and fishing throughout the year, as well as the bounty they will receive that night. Many gifts tend to be left out for Eterra, which consist of either supplies for the small temple, or lovely items pulled from the sea set out on the beach to be reclaimed by the tides.    Come evening, the boats will return with their haul. While many set back some extra to provide in fear of a lean haul, the sea has never failed to provide Milgram on their feasting festival. The fisherman and their families are cheered as they walk to the city square hauling the food. While side dishes were prepared throughout the day, always including at least one variety of seaweed salad, the main event is the cooking of the fish.    The butcher prepares the fish for cooking, making sure to place all parts that won't be used tonight in a bucket for other purposes--while this night is about celebrating their bounty, there is scarce a Milgramite who is willing to throw away a part of a fish that can serve a purpose.    Large stations begin cooking the fish, with the first servings going to the families of any fishermen who have died that year, followed by still living fishermen and their families. After that, the stations begin serving the fish out to everyone, with other stations providing other goodies and drinks.

Sounds like my kind of festival! Very well presented article and I especially like the that the event spans the full day and brings the whole community together!
