Griggirats
Basic Information
Anatomy
The griggirat, despite what its name may imply, is a weasel-like animal common among those businesses who send messages and deliveries on a daily basis, such as an apothecary or a scribe. At roughly two feet long, these sleek animals come in a variety of colors from a pale off-white to a deep blue-black. Most common, however, is a tabby pattern with a white belly and "mittens".
Dietary Needs and Habits
Griggirats are often called a "cook's best friend." This is due to their ability to eat nearly anything, and constant readiness for a snack. The metabolism of a griggirat is surprisingly high for their size, and due to their active lifestyle, a high amount of protein is needed for a griggirat to thrive.
Additional Information
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Griggirats have been domesticated into companions and delivery animals. Harnesses made to hold scrolls or supplies are commonplace, and range from utilitarian leather to luxuriously decorated jewelry.
Average Intelligence
While not a sapient creature, it's hard to deny the cleverness of a griggirat. One of the largest risks a guardian of a griggirat has is letting them get bored or not providing enough mental enrichment. It's common to see the creatures playing in small community mazes. As well, puzzle toys hiding treats or bells are a common tool for keeping a griggirat engaged and happy.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
A griggirat has a fantastic ability to find the shortest path to a person. This is true whether the person has met said animal before.
Griggirats tend to form a weak telepathic connection with their favorite person, which allows them to gain insight on where/to whom their delivery is to go. While they seem goofy, they're also highly protective of those they love and can pick up ill-intent towards their guardian.
I love the idea of these griggirats running about with a little harness holding scrolls or any other small item. I have to say I also love your take on the working animal prompt!
