Land of Earth

" We thought the war almost over - their garrison was in tatters, their walls crumbling, and their Ninja nowhere to be seen. It was when my men called me over to the other side of fortress I saw my mistake. The 'Fortress' we had taken, and paid a hefty price for, was but an outpost of unholy size. I know this, for cresting the horizon in that moment were half a dozen more fortresses, each at least three times larger than the last. I ordered my men to fall back..."

  • General Nakashima Shimazu, quote from Memoir regarding the Great Shinobi War.
  • Geography

The Land of Earth, as one might expect, is a place of rigid, steep mountains dotted with rare minerals and ores. Barring perhaps the Land of Wind, the Land of Earth is the most difficult place to travel through due to the rocky and uneven terrain. Its mountains are some of the largest in the land, and are truly a sight to behold. Only the greatest peaks in the Land of Lightning surpass them. Around the sprawling mountain, the land is somewhat mediocre for agriculture, and there is only one major source of water for the inhabitants of the Land, carefully guarded by the Hidden Stone Village.

    Fauna & Flora

Flora - Given its position geographically, the Land of Earth is noted for having mediocre soil for farming and agriculture. Left to its own devices, the areas of grassland surrounding the Mountains largely depend on heavy rainfall to turn fully green in the Spring and Summer. Wheat, plain grass, and other common plants are found here, though in a somewhat scarce capacity.   Fauna - The Land of Earth is inhabited by a fair number grazing animals that will periodically move through its mountain passes during migration season. Bison, Mountain cats, and more unusual creatures are said to roam in and around the Mountains, though this just hearsay, as no one has ever fully explored the region in its entirety.

    Natural Resources

The Land of Earth produces the greatest quantity (and many would say quality) of Minerals and ores to the rest of Nippon. This alone means that any aspiring warlord will need to make hefty trade deals within the Land of Earth, and prying eyes know that covered wagons full of ore are a tell-tale sign of impending conflict.   The Lack of quality Farmland means that any living within the Land of Earth normally import a substantial quantity of food, as it is incredibly difficult, perhaps impossible, to be entirely self-sufficient in this land.
