Wolf Coat Ceremony

History

The ceremony began when the Arcanes moved to Europe. The EU called for aid in dealing with the myrwolf epidemic. Warriors were rewarded for killing the muties, and it became tradition to wear the fur of a defeated Myrwolf. The wolf coat ceremony began as a way for the council and family of the chieftain to hear the young heir to the chieftainship's warrior vows. The tradition was adopted by the Legion as a whole when they went into hiding. It became a time of unity, to recognize a new member joining the ranks. It also allowed the Council to keep track of members of the Legion.

Execution

The young person enters the room and walks past their family, dressed only in black base layers. They then dress in the armor of their people and kneel in front of the presider. They recite the Warrior's Oath, the creed that all Arcanes fight to uphold. They are 'dubbed' by the sword, their blood is spilled to seal the oath, and they are draped with the weight of a cloak. The cloak, made of the wolf hide, represents the weight of their duty and their achievement in killing the enemy.

Components and tools

The main item is the tanned hide of a Myrwolf, usually sewn into a hood or cloak. The item is presented to the newly minted warrior. Another tool is a sword. The sword tends to be a family heirloom of the young warrior. It is used by the presider to 'dub' the warrior once their vows have been spoken.

Participants

The family of the warrior attends, along with at least one elder or council member. The elder or council member presides over the ceremony and hears the warrior's vows. The young warrior, who is being honored for their first myrwolf kill, is the main participant in the ceremony.

Observance

The ceremony takes place whenever a warrior kills their first myrwolf and the hide is tanned. These warriors are usually between 8 and 12 years old.
