Tower of Horns
The portmaster's tower in the Bay of Neroon in Baross is known as the Tower of Horns thanks to the immense trumpet-horns that thrust from the observation deck at its peak. The huge dwarven-made horns bellow sonorous echoing blasts across the bay, instantly audible and recognisable, sending orders to the pilots steering ships through the complex waterways between the reefs dotting the bay.
Each horn has a different note, and the pilots are assigned to specific horns on each duty shift. Working in concert with tower-spotters and the trumpeters, they thread unerringly through the dangerous waters. The blaring horns roll across the water clearly, and bounce off the cliffs on the far side of the bay. The precise timing of the echoes allow veteran pilots to know exactly where the ship is within the bay, and turn the ships with no further cues.
The Tower was made by human and dwarven stonemasons working together, and has the distinctive fusion of their styles which is the signature of Hardeskar, the merged human-dwarven town which the Bay of Neroon serves as a transport hub. Each horn is formed from the long column of the horn projecting down the side of the tower before thrusting outward, capped in a dwarven face with the bellowing mouth forming the mouth of the horn. Each face is unique, representing important dwarven individuals in Hardeskar's history.
