An'Dué Island

An'Dué Island is the most densely populated ward of New Straum and its economic and administrative center. Locals often refer to the island simply as "The City", particularly elven locals who see the "Golden Marshes" as the center of modern culture in the world.

Demographics

An'Dué is predominantly elven (53%), with other races filling out the remaining population almost equally. Residents are affluent and primarily work in the economic, government, or entertainment sectors.

Government

The Tribunal is situated on An'Dué Island, as well as the Capitol Seat, making the Ward the center of government for all of New Straum.

Geography

The Island is a combination of salt and freshwater tidal marshes resting atop a massive schist bedrock platea. It is cut away from the rest of the Straumland basin by the forks of North River (Northriver and Faeland river)

Flora

Before the city was fully developed, the island was dominated by salt tolerant grasses and small shrubs. Since the city paved over most of the wetlands, other species of tree (oak, spruce, alder) have thrived in the greenways and parks.

Fauna

Before the city, An'Due Island was populated with small water fowl, insects, and little else. Currently, the island is host to nearly every breed of domesticated creature.

Ward Districts

Lower An'Dué: the hammerhead-shaped south-eastern edge of the island, Lower An'Dué's business district houses the financial hub of the western hemisphere. Additionally, neighborhoods on the "Northeast Side" are considered some of the most fashionable in all of New Straum.

Meridian: Bisecting the island east and west is the Meridian District. Home to the lion's share of New Straum's downtown high-rises, the area is most known for its commercial centers, and it's extreme real estate rates.

Faeland: running north-south along the Faeland river, the Faeland district is one of the principle residential areas in the city. Though it is thoroughly integrated with city officials of every ancestry, it maintains the highest percentage population of elves in all of New Straum

Park West: A combination of residential, civil, and public green space, Park West is the most modest district on An'Dué Island, home to the Tribunal Courts, City Watch Headquarters, and the 1st battalion's barracks.
