Sternernvolk Universum

The Universe is vast and empty. The Milky Way Galaxy, home to humankind, lies barren, cold and uncaring to its occupants. Within one of its smallest arms, the Orion Spur, Humankind lives and thrives. They stopped surviving roughly a thousand years ago and have since then started to spread across the stars.   However, mankind is at odds with the vastness and emptiness of space. While they managed faster than light travel and communications, creating living space in the cold vacuum, shaping matter with the click of a button, transforming and ever-changing themselves, to better suit their needs or the needs of their environment, mankind never found someone else.   The Universe is vast, empty ... and mostly inhospitable. And while humankind, in their continued strife to go beyond the set frontiers, has ventured further and further into the Milky Way Galaxy, they start to think, that they truly are alone.   For some this fact is humbling to the point of devastation. For others, this thought has become a driving force. For if there is no one else, if humankind is truly and utterly alone, all the great things we have thought others could bring to us, will have to come from us. Humankind has to be the keeper and spreader of life amongst the stars. And so they seek ways of directing humankind to become a people of the stars.   On this way, humankind has not only to come to terms with this vast emptiness, but Humankind also has to come to terms with itself. With its desire to rule, to lead, to dictate and to fight for dominance. Wars have been fought for land and resources, they have been fought over ideas, identities and ideologies. Wars have been fought and Humankind will keep on fighting between themselves. Cruelty and Evil, discord and distrust, lies and deceit, all of these are part of Humankind and will stay with us until the end of time.   This journey ahead of us is not about getting rid of all that is evil. It is not about the everlasting triumph of all that is good. It is solely about our development as a species, as a people. Our ongoing development from who we were, to what we will become. In a universe so vast and empty, it is up to us to be more than we were, to be more then we are.   Until we not only live between the stars but shine as bright as them.
