Origins Of Stepping Stone

Many, many years ago...

A man named Jedediah Foreman and his son Brom Foreman were exiled from their village on charges of "Unethical Experimentation on Metal and Children". With what little they had left in belongings Jedediah and Brom headed south-west away from their village in hopes of finding new opportunities. On their way Jedediah and Brom discovered a wounded traveler, on the steps of Death's door. Being the men they were, they quickly did away with the man and took his belongings, among said belongings was a mysterious blue gem that, as they would soon find out, when exposed to heat would release differing amounts of steam depending on the temperature the gem burned at. Brom, being the smarter of the two proposed the idea and potential of unlimited energy via steam power. Quickly they set together to begin work on a housing for the gem and made a crude, yet effective, steam generator. Jedediah being the more money minded of the duo suggested the find a travel or Freight company to partner with and begin to use their new engine. And then, as if it the universe was in their favor, Brom spotted a stagecoach coming down the road toward them. As the stage was about to pass Brom flagged it down and asked if they could hitch a ride to the nearest town. The stage driver let them ride along, and they soon arrived at the town of Riverstone.

The Town of Riverstone

The town of Riverstone and the opportunities it presented led to much success for the father and son, they partnered with the stage company run out of Riverstone and developed the first no horse and steam powered coach. It could travel for an impressive 92 miles without a refuel, which more than covered the distance between any destination and Riverstone. Riverstone soon become a bustling trade center and Jedediah and Brom soon had enough funds to completely buy out the stage company and turn it into Foreman and Foreman, Mail and Freight. As the years passed and trade only became more and more Riverstone began to grown, and began pushing the limits of its legal boundaries. Over the years Brom had been developing new ways to heat the gem to even higher temperatures and produce even more steam. He invented a metal alloy that could withstand almost any amount of heat, and it almost drove him bankrupt, and he almost lost his half of the company. With the gem incased in this practically melt proof boiler, Brom began to increase the heat, driving steam outputs through the roof. As he watched the dials on the boiler rise he had an idea, what if the could make the town rise? What if they could make it a flying city? It would take a lot of money, and a lot of time but it was possible.

First Days of Stepping Stone

Brom proposed the idea to his father, who had become mayor of the township, and he agreed on it. Riverstone would fly. But without the river the town sat on, they couldn't call it Riverstone anymore. Jedidiah petitioned the citizens of the town for its new name, and the settled on Stepping Stone.   Ever since that day our city has grown, eventually into the skies, abandoning the people below us, and we still expand every day, new platforms and balloons are erected almost every other week, and at the heart of it all, the gem our founders found all those years ago, still steaming away to this day.
