ASTUN
The Alliance of the Space Territories of the United Nations. A military force compromised of volunteers, and at times draftees, from the various member states of the STUN. Operates at times as a peacekeeping force, and at times as a offensive force, whichever when the need arises.
Structure
Central command is ostensibly a form of council, composed of, like its parent organization, elected representatives from areas. These areas are significantly larger, though.
Command of any given military forces in an area falls to a dedicated leader, chosen by rank. This is done to avoid confusion. These areas can be subdivided again, with local commanders following general orders, and commanding their troops themselves. These can be subdivided again, and so on.

A couple hundred worlds to draw from.
History
Formed a few years after the STUN. Has operated ever since, serving as the overall STUN military force. Has taken part in numerous wars and conflicts.
Military
Each of the ASTUN's many sub-organizations play a crucial part in its existence. The two main forces are the Navy and the Army, each in turn split into sub-groups. These are split and elements allocated to each sector and area, depending on necessity.
Technological Level
Varied. Forces within the Core Worlds and other significant areas are naturally more equipped with the latest and best equipment. Indeed, most member worlds commit their equipment and technology to the ASTUN first, and their own local militaries second. With this in mind, forces assingned to the more frontier and backwater areas are, of course, less equipped.
