Vulcanus Settlement in Stella Terram | World Anvil

Vulcanus

Vulcanus is the oldest and most populous settlement in Terra Draconium, located on the largest island of the Petra Terram archipelago.   Nestled on Vulcan Bay in the shadow of Mount Thermessa, the oldest volcano in the chain, it is home to the tribus elders and assemblies of the Petricum

Government

Vulcanus is governed by representatives from the Draconium council of tribus elders and apprentices, who determine by consensus the best way to manage the needs of the people. This council maintains their residence in the settlement all year round, while most of the population spend various parts of the year tending to the farms and active volcanoes scattered throughout the archipelago.

History

Thought to be the place where the Tellicola first set foot on this world, after watching humans navigate their way up the Inferna River as they explored the world. There they mingled with the humans that had survived the journey and embraced life at the foot of the massive fire mountains.

Soon the petricum came to be, and they learned how to harness the power of the volcanoes, to direct it ways to protect the settlements cropping up on some of the larger islands. This power was used to develop technologies in construction, farming, travel, and power that allowed them the freedom to spend most of their time doing what they truly loved - exploring the volcanic chain and tending to the creatures that made it their home.

When the decision was made to stop mingling with the Stellarum and Glacianum, the Mutaturum living in Vulcanus were asked to leave, which caused the first and only war fought in Draconium. The mutaturum established for themselves a settlement on the coast of the mainland, and those on Vulcanus came to forget of their existence.

Geography

The settlement overlooks Vulcan Bay and has views of three out of the six shield volcanoes that make up the island of Primisula. It is on the eastern and windward side of the island.

It has a tropical rainforest climate, with significant rainfall throughout the year.

Located at the base of Mount Thermessa, the oldest volcano in the archipelago, it also has views of Mount Amianita and Mount Calsphaera(location).
