Juwelen Hånd (Ju-Wel-En Hand)
When King Myghchaell announced to the founding members the creation of the Pwerus Kuintë and its role, he never imagined that a symbol was needed. Briceus the merchant, who loves to wear gaudy and ostentatious jewelry, was the one who mentioned a symbol was needed. The others were relieved someone had brought forth the motion, and accepted without hesitation.
The jeweler Ancelmus was approached to design and create the secretive emblem. The hand as a symbol was his recommendation. The guiding hand of Steeghan. The first rendition of the Juwelen Hånd, was the size of an actual hand, made of pure gold, encrusted full of jewels. It weighed 70 lbs. After a few concessions, the final rendition was slightly smaller than a hand, made of silver with a single diamond the size of a thumbnail. It weighed 16 lbs. Once every member received their Juwelen Hånd, Ancelmus was never heard of again.
The thought behind the creation of the symbol was simple, once a member wanted to step down from the Pwerus Kuintë, it was up to them to give the jeweled hand to their replacement. All very civilized. Needless to say, we don't live in civilized times. Throughout the cycles, members of the Pwerus Kuintë have been mugged, killed and even kidnapped. All with hopes of holding the power the Juwelen Hånd yields. In the hundreds of cycles the quintet has existed, there has never been an empty chair at a meeting. Every time there was a new face, they had the Jeweled hand to confirm their legitimacy.
If poor people are willing to step over each other to survive, rich people are capable of much worse to keep power close by.
