Steampunk Earth - 1896

Created by

An alternative history set in the steampunk universe (to be defined in these pages).   The year is 1896, airship travel is the most efficient mode of transportation. Guilds for all types of Captains have popped up everywhere in the world. Of course, Britain is at the apex of its colonial rule, and many adventurers find themselves here.   The history of the 19th century world is very complex. The industrial revolution created new technologies, some of which failed where others prospered. The world that Captain Hale and her crew members live in, is a diversion from the course of history as it had progressed. In this alternate history, there are years of sociopolitical strife in the western world, what is essentially Canada and the United States. It was a war of terror, propaganda circled through both countries and for either side of the cause. The tension finally broke in the early months of 1891, when a riot started in the metropolitan city of York (Now Toronto). The rest of the riots that occurred eventually turned into battles within the countryside and also in the cities, some being left abandoned and remain so today (See Depot Harbour).   The fictional town of Port Selcouth is supposed to be located in the Niagara Region, and with the United States so close, they were almost at the heart of the conflict, yet virtually untouched. The conflict, as it is know, is centred around the lower class uprising. Minority groups in both countries became aware of the injustice and chose to change it. With the American Civil War fought a mere 30 odd years before, there was room for social reform.   The inventions mentioned, clearly, don’t exist in a real context. However, with room for inventors, these types of steam powered technologies were able to flourish.
