Beaulieu Estate

Subtle, tasteful, reserved: these three words have nothing to do with the Beaulieu estate. While it might have been average in its hayday, the rennovations at the beginning of the century were little more than a gross display of new wealth that pushed it from opulent to tacky. One woud be hard pressed to find more than two square inches of space that isn't painted, gilded, carved, or crowded with some garish trinket. Be careful walking around the grounds -- the swans have been known to bite.

Purpose / Function

The Beaulieu Estate was built as the ancestral home of the Beaulieu family, and as a display of wealth and power for the family.

Alterations

The estate and its grounds were heavily rennovated during the first twenty years Claude and Mirabelle lived there, including the addition of dozens of enormous murals painted on the walls by Claude and Belladonna. It was further rennovated by Belladonna and William, including installing the famous swan lake in the gardens, a ballet studio, and a small theatre.

Architecture

The building was built in French Baroque style.

History

The estate was built in 1652 by the Beaulieu family and took thirty years to be completed. The family lived there until the French Revolution, when it was abandoned by the land-rich but bankrupt family as they downsized to Paris. The estate was ransacked by revolutionaries and fell into disrepair. At the beginning of the nineteenth century, the nouveau riche painter, Claude Beaulieu and his wife, opera diva Mirabelle Bellerose, moved back into the estate for the prestige of being associated with the aristocracy and the related hopes of making their daughter, Belladonna, more eligable. After Belladonna and William, the Earl of Atropine, were married, they moved into the estate. When their eldest son, Anthony, was married, he continued living in the estate with his first wife and son, Patience, and his second wife, Eileithyia, and the twins. The estate was maintained after his death by his Patience and Eileithyia.
