The Deck of Many Fiends
Overview:
Each card in the deck has a devil or demon that is associated with it. When drawn, the fiend is materialized on the plane at a random location. Each card has unique effects in addition to summoning the fiend. Most of these effects are good, but not all. The effects become increasingly powerful as the fiend power level increases. When drawn, the number of the specific type of fiend is determined randomly, as well as the spawn location. The Deck:
Deck Box:
The Deck in contained in an ornately carved bone box with depictions of fire and demons. The front of the box is carved in the shape something that resembles a grotesque and demented head of a bull complete with a nose ring(A Goristro).Keeper of the Deck:
The Deck was discovered by the Night Hag Mattie who was quickly killed by her Green Hag sister, Maureen Clovenwater. Maureen now travels the world selling her rubbish wares, and the opportunity to draw from her deck. She is a selfish woman who takes pleasure in the failings and tragedies of other creatures. She enjoys causing people misfortune and despair as it makes her feel better about her shitty life. The Cards:
Dretch
One of the weakest types of demons, Dretch are repulsive self-loathing cowards; creatures doomed to spend eternity in a state of perpetual discontent and servitude to their masters. What they lack in intelligence and power they make up for in obedience and sheer malice.- (1d8+2) You feel slightly stronger and surprisingly relieved in every way. You gain 3000 XP and your clothes instantly become soiled and dirty and you smell like you haven’t showered over in a week. You may draw again. (The pack of Dretch are hungry for flesh and will pursue the character)
Lemure
The manifestation of a freshly trapped soul in the Underworld, Lemures resemble a mound of molten flesh with a vaguely humanoid head and torso. They are repugnant, shapeless creatures doomed to suffer torment in hell until perhaps they are promoted to a higher form of devilry.- (1d8+2) The card crumbles into dust is blown away in a gust of wind that carries with it the sound of a distant cry of pain. You may draw another card.
Imp
Imps are vicious, manipulative fiends that are found in the least powerful ranks of the infernal legions. Imps normally appeared as tiny, red-skinned humanoids with a pair of black wings and a long tail ending in a poisonous stinger, containing a deadly poison.- (1d6+2) A puff of smoke comes from the card and 2d10 gp fall out. Also, you feel much more confident in yourself, your skills, and your ability to be a leader. (A low level squire or protege seeks you out, and wishes to become your apprentice. They are of the same race as you, and will pursue you until they die, you betray them, or you refuse them 3 times)
Quasit
Tiny little humanoid demon-bugs that only stand about 1 foot tall, quasits are actually kinda cute... as far as fiends go I suppose.- (1d6+2) All of a sudden you don’t feel good and your skin goes pale. You start to feel very sick (You’re poisoned for 1d4 hours). On the plus side, a minor magic item appears at your feet (roll once on Magic Item Table A) You may draw another card.
Balgura
These 6 foot tall demon-apes are a force to be reckoned with and leave death and destruction in their wake wherever they go. They are almost always angry, and nearly impossible to control, even for the demons that outrank them.- (1d4) You start to feel agitated for no apparent reason. You don’t know why but soon that agitation turns to anger and you are on the verge of losing control before you manage to calm yourself down to a normal level. You gain the ability to Rage for the next 2d10 days. (Or until the balgura is killed)
Vrock
Vrocks are somewhat of a cross between a vulture and a human. They stand roughly 8 feet tall and weigh over 500 pounds. They have long arms, legs, talons, and wings, and their bodies were covered with small gray feathers. They embodied the worst of demonic attributes: betrayal, rage, and hatred. Above all, they love the taste of human flesh.- (1-2) You are chilled to the bone by a horrifying screech that is carried in on a cold gust of wind. Out of that same gust of wind, a large sum (500g worth) of gems and jewels appear in front of you. (The vrock(s) spawned are drawn to the gems will pursue whoever possesses them until they reclaim the jewels or they themselves are killed)
Chasme
What can best be described as gigantic demon mosquitoes, chasmes are horrible and disgusting hybrids of flies and humans who suck blood and enjoyed tormenting and torturing their victims. They are often used as interrogators and torturers in the Abyss.- (1-2) You hear a faint buzzing sound that grows larger and larger until it fills the room. You are the only one who can hear this, and before you can discern where it is coming from, it dissipates. You gain a +2 bonus to any attempts at interrogation for the next 1d4 weeks. (The Chasme knows the exact location of the character and will pursue them)
Hezrou
A hezrou was a large demonic monstrosity that bore a superficial resemblance to a toad in humanoid form, with arms and hands instead of forelegs. It had wide maw with rows of blunt teeth that had a powerful crushing force. A series of long spikes ran down their backs. They were not necessarily the smartest, but their stench could sicken even the most stout of hearts.- (1) The air fills with a pungent smell of passed gas and rotting mud. Anyone standing in a 30 ft radius loses their ability to smell for the next 1d4 hours. You gain a permanent -2 penalty to Constitution Saving Throws until further notice (This effect can be undone by a Greater Restoration spell, the equivalent, or the death of the Hezrou)
Glabrezu
A glabrezu is a towering demon with a broad, muscular body and two pairs of arms: the small set being somewhat humanoid, while the other set ending in monstrous crab-like pincers. Its canine head is horned and it has a muzzle full of sharp teeth to tear apart its prey. But the greatest weapon of the glaberzu is not it’s claws nor its bite. Instead, it is its wit, its trickery, and its will to dominate.- The card begins to break open and ripple with red energy. You only hear a mighty guttural roar before it bursts into pieces. These pieces then begin to swirl around you until coalescing into the form of a fearsome battleaxe in your hand.(Ragzuleb appears)
Nalfeshnee
The nalfeshnee is one of the most grotesque demons- a corpulent mockery of ape and boar standing twice the height of a human, with feathered wings that seem too small for its bloated body. They feed on hatred and despair, but they crave humanoid flesh above all else.- (1) A scintillating, multicolored light begins to emanate from the card. It unnerves you a little bit, but it soon dissipates. Chance is on your side, at least temporarily. You gain 6 luck points, as per the “Lucky” feat. Unlike the feat, however, these points are finite and will not be restored after a long rest.
Marilith
Terrible to behold, a marilith has the lower body of a great serpent and the upper torso of a humanoid female with six arms. Wielding a wicked blade in each of its six hands, a marilith is a devastating foe that slice its foes to bits in a few seconds. They possess keen minds and a finely honed sense of tactics so they are often appointed as captains and generals of the Abyss.- (1)You gain proficiency in martial weapons and you gain abilities as per one of the following feats: Defensive Duelist, Dual Wielder, or Blade Master.
Incubus
Beautiful fiends who thrive on the corruption of mortal souls and the iconic depiction of lust, succubuses are demons that take the form of beautiful women and seduce their prey into giving them their soul and life-force. The male form is an incubus. They may change their form at will to suit their needs but their true forms have an appearance similar to that of humans, but are horned, clawed, tailed, and/or winged.- (1) You feel rejuvenated and you lose or gain 10 pounds in the direction of beauty. Your body radiates warmth and your hair blows in the wind. You gain +1 to your Charisma score and you feel...horny. In fact, your sex drive has increased by a factor of 2. (You are cursed as long as the incubus lives and those who you have sex with will die in 1d4 days.)
