Of Time and Space

The Legend of Creation as told by the Dwarven Theologian, Deortincrr the Wise.   "In the beginning, only Primortis existed, a state of non-existence under one extra-planar sentience. Then, miraculously, there was something else. There was... space. Dimension. Area. It's impossible to describe what it was for there was nothing within it, but it was still there. Then there came something else, even more impossible to describe. Time. A simple enough concept now, but there was still nothing."   "How can there be nothing?"   "There wasn't always something, so there must have been nothing. I suppose you could say Primortis was something, but it's more an idea than something tangible."   "Tangible?"   "Something we can touch and feel. Are you done?"   "Yes."   "So now we have space and time. Locanim and Temporia. They slowly realized their existence, and each other's, and found they could coalesce into their own forms. They knew no language, for none had been made, but they spoke to each other nonetheless, and their love was so deep that other entities formed because of it. Terranum was the first, forming all the stone and earth. Then came Caeliska, creating the sky and the air we breathe today. Then Marius, who brought with her the seas and the lakes."   "When were we created?"   "Again, you interrupt. We were created aeons after the Beginning, that is another story for another day. Now be quiet."   "Sorry..."   "Now there are five. Time, Space, Land, Sky, and Seas. More came after, of course, but that is all I shall bring in today. Now, Tmporia and Locanum had a deep love for each other, so deep they paid little attention to their children, causing each to be incredibly jealous of the others. For centuries they would compete, creating great things and destroying the other's creations, all vying for even a word from their parents. By now, of course, they developed language enough to insult each other. Which they did, frequently. Even today, you can hear the sounds of Caeliska's thunder, Terranum's quakes, and Marius' storms."     "Wow..."   "Indeed. Few of the gods are powerful enough for their voices to be heard today, for there are many who no longer have confidence in them. Perhaps I shall tell you of the others another day, for my eyes grow weary, and I long for my bed. Good day, children."   "Bye! Thanks for the story Deo!"
