Kyn Dreah

Basic Information

Anatomy

A rotund reptile closest in size to a very large dog or small bear. They typically drag their fat, pale stomachs along the ground, which are covered in thick scales. They have short horns on their head which they use to gore prey in close quarters, as their teeth aren’t sharp enough to pierce thick skin. In their stomachs are glands that produce a thick, glue-like substance that they spit out to incapacitate prey, which they then tear open with their horns. They are purple with dark stripes, and have short tails. The other lizard which they most closely resemble is a very fat, bulky gila monster.

Genetics and Reproduction

Female kyn dreah watch over their eggs lightly. They spit a protective layer of mucus around the eggs to prevent them from being stolen and eaten, and then use their horns to tear the mucus away when the eggs are ready to hatch.

Ecology and Habitats

Though the kyn dreah makes their home in caves, they regularly venture out into the wilderness to hunt, much like a bear. They spend much of their life in a state of pseudo hibernation, conserving heat and energy by sleeping until they are hungry enough to wake and seek out food. They eyesight is very adaptable to light sources, but is not especially strong in distance or color.

Dietary Needs and Habits

The kyn dreah is a carnivore which hunts mains medium to large mammals. They prefer larger kills like deer or wild pigs, but will settle for smaller animals like squirrels, so long as they can eat enough to fill themselves for sleep. Their slow metabolism means they only need to eat once a month, and they spend the rest of their time sleeping in cocoons of their own mucus, which they tear free themselves from by shedding their skin.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Kyn dreah have a very keen sense of smell, which they use to detect chemicals that might neutralize the stickiness of their mucus. This sense of smell also helps them to locate prey, or places scent marked by predators or competitors.
