Dry-Ocean Valley (Unique Biome Type)

The Riptide Wastes are a unique biome existing within Starside. Due to the presence of raw magical energy in the atmosphere, magic condensed within the ocean, causing the waters to part like the biblical Red Sea. However, in the space between the walls of ocean, life continued to thrive. Through the magic residing in the creatures of the ocean floor, the undersea creatures and plants survived, and have since evolved into land-based forms. Essentially, it has become a vast stretch of ocean, with fish, coral reefs, everything, but without water.

Geography

The Wastes are a vast expanse of mountains, canyons, and highlands. Coral reefs dot the sandy trenches and valleys, like colorful forests. Sponges and wild sea-plants make up riptide forests, and a constant mist of light rain hangs over the cold highlands. To walk through the wastes is to walk at the bottom of the ocean. However, everything has grown to much larger sizes over time, so that coral reefs can be explored by humans who are proportionally the size of fish in an undersea coral reef.

Natural Resources

Because the wastes are much more easily accessed by air-breathing species, all undersea resources like minerals that are formed under the pressure of the ocean are now easily accessed, and cultivation of ocean plants is in its early stages.
