Space Suits

Most space suits as of 2278 operate on mechanical counter pressure principles. For example, the Union Naval Corps Exo-Activity Suit, the most common spacesuit line in the surplus sector, makes use of cords of elastics, interwoven with kevlar, spandex, and insulative materials. While only the front T-shaped section of the helmet is transparent, AR overlays allow the user up to 360 degrees of vision within the suit; the helmet also contains longer-range communications equipment, pressure sensors, and connections to a back-mounted oxygen tank. An additional port to connect an oxygen tank is typically provided on the front, where it is accessible in a crisis. Identification is typically done via IFF transponder, though some organizations will insist on visible markings on the suit. Often, spacers decorate their own suits where possible.   One notable feature of the Exo-Activity Suit not shared by some other models is its compatibility with wearable exoskeletons. The hard sections of the exoskeleton lie over the elastic cords used in the suit's structure, so as to not impair mobility significantly; the exoskeleton's gloves slide over the glove and forearm of the suit, while the suit's boots have a similar layer of structural reinforcement placed over them. These exoskeletons prove more useful on planetary surfaces and in other non-microgravity environments, but one beloved feature is the maneuvering suite often included. Thrusters mounted in the gloves, boots, and belt allow for extensive control over one's attitude and direction. The exoskeleton's onboard battery also allows for higher-power tools to be operated without dealing with high-mass generators, though this necessarily reduces operating time.
