Personal history
Coal, otherwise known as Teerla, is Hana’s spirit guardian. She was a sehashi that worked along Dionne's grandmother more than thirty years prior to the start of the story. She's only part human, though in her civilian form she was indistinguishable from a full blooded human. Her mother was alien sehashi, a refugee from a nearby star system. Her father didn't know that his wife wasn't what she appeared to be. Coal's alien self only manifests in sehashi form.
