The Nexus

Universal Data Storage

The Nexus is a Superstructure-class artificial object slightly smaller than Pluto. It was designed as an information supercomputer for the entire inhabited universe, storing and interpreting massive amounts of data from every possible source. The Nexus has several artificial ecosystems and settlements on the surface, making it a viable place to live. It is in orbit around the F-type star Verantol, with a companion red dwarf star. It began construction in the 8400's. Because of the sheer complexity of the interior, it had to be built by a large manned crew, instead of a giant world forge ship fleet. It is still in construction to this day, with major overhauls being made to existing parts. The Nexus is the primary link of the mail network and courier system networks.   Beneath the cityscapes and information depots is a collection of archive vaults. These vaults are where important data is transcribed onto physical mediums in case of catastrophic power loss across the whole structure. Beneath those are secure storage sectors where personal data of trillions of people is stored. There are also privately owned vaults where the data of people who own important information or otherwise illegal data is stored.   There are various means of security aboard the Nexus to ensure no data is stolen or tampered with. Automated personnel patrol the inside of the station. The interior layout is also intentionally labyrinthian and complex. Beyond the surface depots and some data vaults the Nexus is not designed for sapient habitation.   The core of the Nexus is actually a large pressurized negative space designed as a massive simulation engine called the Oracle. It was built in an attempt to predict future events using collected data. The amount of data and processing power needed to complete this task however is too great, and the Oracle has been mostly non-functional since it was created.   In the absence of a functioning simulation engines within the core of the Nexus large synthetic lifeforms have arisen. These massive draconic creatures seem to possess a high level of animistic intelligence. These robotic creatures remain in constant flight, only landing to perform maintenance upon the structures around them. It is unknown how these creatures arose, however their code is similar to that of the automated maintenance robots found in other parts of the Nexus. These creatures also posses similar maintenance tools and perform similar tasks to other automated. They could have been created from a glitch in a robotic replication system or intentional tampering with automated service.

Geography

Most of the original asteroids and planets in the Verantol have been deconstructed to make sure of no gravitational interference with the Nexus as well as to provide extra resources if needed. There is still one planet and construction of a large station in orbit around the Nexus is underway.
The entirety of the Nexus is a giant supercomputer made of millions of interconnected networks and servers, built for crunching numbers, contemplating the universe, plotting courses for expeditions, etc.
Desrin is an Arid-class planet with a thin atmosphere of CO2 and Nitrogen. There are various trading posts and depots on the surface.
The Kalgrin Orbital Defense Platform (K.A.D.O.P) is a large station under construction orbiting the Nexus. It is estimated to be completed in 10,231. It is designed to protect the Nexus in the event of invasion of the system during a possible conflict.
