Form IV: Ataru in Star Wars: Shards | World Anvil

Form IV: Ataru

GM Note: this and all other Tera Kasai forms are under review from a game mechanics point of view
The master practitioners of Form IV make extensive use of acrobatic maneuvers often thought not physically possible by using the Force to guide their motion.   In order to master Ataru, a Jedi must be able to control his anger, because if he doesn't, his combat becomes aggressive and leads to the Dark side. Even the most skilled Jedi, such as Yoda, have difficulties controling their anger in such a situation. Ataru users have to concentrate and make their move wisely due to the terrible consequences.   This form was created during the last centuries of the Old Republic. Qui-Gon Jinn and Yoda were both masters of Form IV, as shown in their duels against Darth Maul and Count Dooku, respectively. Obi-Wan Kenobi, though already very advanced, temporarily abandoned his Ataru training in favor of Form III because he felt that his master's defeat demonstrated a fatal flaw in the defensive capabilities of this form. In due time, Obi-Wan fulfilled his obligation to his "true form;" therefore, being able to apply Ataru acrobatics to face the Sith Lord Darth Tyranus. Aayla Secura is also a master of this form. Quinlan Vos had taught Aayla Form IV. Palpatine used a Sith variant of this form, which included stabs and wide swings. Jedi Master Yoda used this technique in almost all of his battles, due to his incredible connection to the Force. By the end of the Clone Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi is acknowledged as a master of Ataru. However, his previous training of Soresu has enabled him to incoporate its essential defenses to his Ataru training, a combination of which poses a formidable style for offense, though not as aggressive as Shien Djem-So.   In dire situations, Form IV practitioners use the Force to aid in their acrobatics. Spinning, jumping and running very high and very fast, masters of Form IV are sometimes only seen as a blur. In order to achieve the acrobatic prowess, amazing reflexes and physical punch of this form, a Jedi Master would focus on the Force, letting it flow deeply throughout his entire physicality, even allowing him to overcome the limitations of old age. Due to its aggressive nature, it is an effective form to use against single enemies; however, it leaves the user open to attacks from multiple opponents; therefore, it is wise to use Ataru in a duel, but not in open warfare.   This form includes the following: Sense: Life Sense Receptive Telepathy Sense Force Sense Path Life Detection Control: Concentration, Enhance Attribute (Dexterity)*, Emptiness, Remain Conscious Alter: Telekinesis Control and Sense: Lightsaber Combat Projective Telepathy Control, Sense and Alter: Affect Mind   General Skills: Dexterity: Melee Combat ( Lightsaber ) Dexterity: Melee Parry ( Lightsaber ) Dexterity: Dodge Dexterity: Gymnastics Physical Martial Skills (as described in the Star Wars SpecOps book): Punch Kick Flying Kick Foot Sweep Spinning Kick Disarm Instant Stand Known practitioners: Yoda, Qui Gon Jinn, Emperor Palpatine, Aayla Secura   *Note: While taught how to enchance their own physical form in general, this style focuses on the ability to be highly mobile. As such the practitioner is limited to just this one attribute. In addition to the usual description for the ability, the practitioner suffers a -1D to their Dexterity until they are able to either rest or use Emptiness to meditate.
