Ki-wing Techniques

Tier 4 Technique (Daunting(d d d d) difficulty)

"The power of the dragons is our birthright, true - but that does not mean all of us deserve it. Those who would seek this power must prove themselves worthy of its glory, and capable of wielding it. For this strength is no toy, it is not something to be taken lightly. One misstep, one slight error, and entire continents may sink below the seas."
— Drakestorm Drogson, Dragon Lord
Ki is a gift from Drogus, the Elderon of the Dragonborn, and it is the life energy of oneself made manifest in the world. The most powerful ways to use this energy cannot be learned through normal means, such as training or attending a class in a Ki Dojo. For these, only one method exists for learning them: taking the trials of the Elder Dragons that guard them.   In a process halfway between learning and earning them, those who wish to learn the ultimate Ki techniques must summon the dragons associated with them, and pass their trials. These trials are meant to test an individuals ability to handle the power in addition to their general worthiness, and as such are different for each person. The techniques, as well as the rituals required to summon their dragons, are listed below.

Flamewing Dragon: Solar Bomb

"This is the true power of the sun. Not just lighting the way, not merely illuminating dark corners, but scorching them to dust, melting them into nothingness, until all that remains are the smolders, it's inconceivable that anything else could have been there before."
— Unknown
The gift of the Flamewing Dragon, this technique allows the user to summon a massive ball of molten magma and launch it at a target, dealing Fire damage equal to their Brawn and ranks in Knowledge combined. This also melts whatever rock it hits into a pool of bubbling magma that can end up being miles deep.   To summon the Flamewing Dragon, one must build a shrine of cooled magma in a place of immense heat, like a desert or near a volcano. The shrine consists of two supporting magma pillars, and a third pillar placed above the two. Supports and bonding material are allowed to help it stay upright, so long as the general shape remains intact. Once the shrine is constructed, the summoner must build a small fire underneath the structure using sticks and whatever means of lighting it they wish.   The final step is to say the following: "Power of fire and magma and earth Teach me the ways to eternally burn."   At this point, if all is done correctly, the small fire will erupt into a pillar of flame, decimating the shrine, and the Flamewing Dragon will appear from the pillar, ready to test the summoner's skills.

Stormwing Dragon: Hurricane Clap

by Fairy Tail

"A dragon is not merely a powerful creature; a dragon is a force of nature all by itself. A dragon can move mountains, level oceans, and divide continents."
— Magma Tidefall, Dragon Researcher
The gift of the Stormwing Dragon, this technique allows the user to send a powerful wind at their foes, dealing Wind damage equal to their Brawn stat and ranks in Knowledge combined. It should be noted, however, that this only works if there is an atmosphere to generate winds, and the name is not for show: this technique generates winds similar to an actual hurricane, so it is ill-advised to use this indoors.   To summon the Stormwing Dragon, one must build a small pyramid of ice spikes in a cold area, such as the tundra or the top of a mountain. The spikes must be arranged so they interlock, and inside the pyramid there must be a triangle made from these spikes. When the structure is complete, the summoner must say "Articulos Mensule!" and detonate it with a Ki attack. The shards of ice will then form themselves into a portal, out of which will fly the Stormwing Dragon, who will then test the summoner.

Mindwing Dragon: Mirror Scale

"Mirror, mirror, on the wall, send their aggression back at them all!"
— General Froststorm Silverstrike
The gift of the Mindwing Dragon, this technique allows the user to reflect a targets attacks, whether they be magical or mundane, directly back at them. There two ways one can apply this effect. The first is as a passive enchantment that lasts until the end of the encounter. If the target is successfully attacked while it is active, they may choose to activate it, which sends the full force of the attack back at the attacker, damaging them instead. This uses up the enchantment, and it cannot be triggered again until it is re-applied. The second method is to use it directly on a foe, which uses their last attack against them. In both cases, the reflected attack has all the properties of the original, including element and weapon qualities that affect damage.   To summon the Mindwing Dragon, one must find a calm place, such as a plains or isolated cave, to meditate in peace. They must draw a runic circle, either in the dirt or with a piece of string, sit down in it, and meditate on all living things in the area. This increases the summoner's sensitivity to life energy, and allows them to create a portal through which the Mindwing Dragon will appear to test them.

Steelwing Dragon: Iron Shell

Iron Shell by R3negade X

"You can't touch me, I'm hard as iron!"
— Volcano Drogson. He later asked to never be quoted as saying that, nor reminded that he ever said that.
The gift of the Steelwing Dragon, this technique allows the user to cloak himself in a shell of iron that provides soak equal to their Brawn stat. This shell provides double soak against Plant and Wind damage, but half soak against Fire and Land damage. This effect lasts until the end of the user's next turn.
To summon the Steelwing Dragon, one must find a cave underground and build a shrine to the dragon. This shrine consists of seven metal bars bent into a half-cylinder. Once this is built, the summoner must light a fire using a Ki attack while saying "Orakave Shi!" The smoke from the fire will descend into the ground, causing an opening from which the Steelwing Dragon will appear, ready to test the summoner.

Goldwing Dragon: Gilded Star

"I am the hope of the omniverse! I am the light bulb in the darkness! I am the bacon in the fridge for all living things to cry out in hunger! I am the alpha and the Amiga! I am the terror that flaps in the night! I am Son Goku, and I am a Super-[gets shot by Freeza]...Saiyan."
— Goku, Dragon ball Z Abridged.
The ultimate Ki technique and the gift of the Goldwing Dragon, this allows the user to access an alternate form called "The Gilded Star," which come with wings that allow flight, and double the base damage of all Ki and unarmed attacks. It also increases general defense by 2, and Agility by 1. This form is not permanent, however, and using it constantly inflicts strain, at a rate of 1 per turn. When the user's strain is completely drained, they will revert back to their original form. Luckily, they can cancel it manually at any time.   Before one can summon the Goldwing Dragon, one must first learn the other four Ki-wing techniques. The summoning ritual is as follows: First, use the Solar Bomb to create a magma pool large enough to drown a Troll. Second, use the Mirror Scale to create a second magma pool, directly above the first. Finally, use the Hurricane Clap in between the two magma pools while under the effect of the Iron Shell. The winds will draw the two magma pools together, until they collide and melt together, and out of which will come the Goldwing Dragon. It is important to note that the previous steps must all be completed by the same person, otherwise the magma pools will simply cool off, leaving a giant ball of magma lying around.   The Goldwing Dragon's trial is the only one that is consistent between participants. It involves battling the Goldwing Dragon in a special subspace created by the dragon that mimics the surrounding environment, but separates the dragon and the summoner from said environment. The two are able to be seen by other people not partaking the trial, but they cannot damage the physical landscape.

Manifestation

Each technique varies in the way they manifest. The Solar Bomb manifests as a massive red-hot sphere of magma, the Hurricane Clap manifests as a massive gust of wind, the Mirror Scale manifests as an ethereal, hexagonal sheet of glass that shifts into a semi-clear duplicate of the target's last attack, the Iron Shell manifests as a skin of iron on the user's body, and the Gilded Star manifests as a transformation into a golden Dragonborn with wings.

This all seems very cool(I like the quotes a lot!)! I'd like a little more clarification on the mirror scale technique. You said if the target "chooses to act while it is it active, they can choose to activate it"? I'm not sure what that means, it was confusingly worded. Also, can two people do the trials at the same time as long as they both perform the rituals? Or does one person have to wait while the other does the trial?

Thank you for reading! I meant to say that while the spell's effect is active, they can choose to activate it and reflect the attack. As far as two people taking the trial, they have to 1) both know all of the other techniques and 2) work together to perform the ritual, so one uses the Solar Bomb and Mirror Scale, while the other uses the Iron Shell and Hurricane Clap.

I see. But what about the four other rituals?

Jan 2, 2019 23:24 by R3negade X

Anyone can perform those, so long as they have at least one rank in the Ki skill.

This flows really well with the quotes and does give a nice epic feel! You might want to put a subtitle above the summoning ritual bit to seperate them out. How many people have these abilities? How common is the knowledge on how to get them?

Thank you for your feedback! I'll look into the subtitles when I have a minute. As far as culturally, almost everyone knows about them, and most people who practice this school know how to summon them, but not everyone passes the trials.

Having to summon the very beasts that are the origin of the techniques to learn the ultimate powers they have imbued on this world is intense. That's really cool!   Also "I am the bacon in the fridge for all living things to cry out in hunger!" Wow, that... That's a quote worthy of being put up on a wall somewhere. XD   With these trials, how many people die during them? It seems extremely dangerous, do these beasts let you fall to the ground defeated but alive, or are you destroyed in pursuit of your goals of the ultimate powers?

Thank you very much for reading! In all honesty, I borrowed that "bacon in the fridge" quote from Dragonball Z Abridged; I just thought it fit. As far as potentially dying during these trials, it's like you said: the dragons don't let you die when you lose, but you know when you lose.
