Dwarves

Dwarves are a strong and proud race of builder and warriors. What they may lack in height, the make up for in pure muscle and raw determination. They are the most suborn race in the system, often refusing to ask for help until they're already got one foot in the mouth of a giant worm, and even then with great reluctance. Once they get an idea in their heads, nothing short of nuclear firepower can dislodge it.

While they are not a malicious race, they do love violence and war. In fact, if a century goes by without a war having gone on, it's considered a failure. Thus, sometimes dwarves invent a civil war to fight in. Nothing too big, usually just a three-day skirmish, after which they all have a few dozen beers.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Dwarves are very muscular, and very hairy. Most dwarves have beards, even the females, which can get confusing even for the dwarves. Dwarves who shave usually had a very awkward incident when they were younger, and now shave to make gender identification easier.

Growth Rate & Stages

Dwarves tend to live for 150 years, and reach maturity at age 22. They reach old age around age 120.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Dwarves believe that a strong name can imbue one with the name's qualities, and the names of famous heroes are among the strongest. However, after one census came up with 500 "Jörgen Beugane"s, they decided that either there needs to be more heroes, or more diverse naming. They seem to have taken both options.

Beauty Ideals

Dwarves are generally attracted to physical strength, usually of the "able to bench-press a couple man-sized boulders" variety.

Gender Ideals

Dwarves believe that both genders are equal. This largely stems from not being able to tell the difference most of the time anyways, so they don't really care which gender does what.

Courtship Ideals

Dwarven courtship is a delicate dance to determine which gender the other one is. However, some dwarves shave regularly, because of a traumatizing mix-up during childhood, and are thus easier to distinguish.

Relationship Ideals

Dwarven couples usually share the load of supporting the family and doing household chores like cleaning the house or defending the caves from monsters.

Average Technological Level

Dwarves have the most advanced mining technology in the system, and some of the best melee weapons to boot. They have achieved space travel, and their ships are some of the most reinforced you can find.

Common Dress Code

Dwarves usually wear heavy leather, helmets, and sometimes armor. If they attend a special occasion, they tend to polish their armor or give it gold plating.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Dwarves are generaly friendly enough to get along with most races, despite their innate stubbornness. While they have trouble accepting help, they are more than willing to give it at the drop of a helmet.
