Divine Ultimatum

Tier 4 Spell (Daunting(d d d d) difficulty)

"Now, Wura, lend me your full power!"
— The first cleric of Wura to use this spell.
The Elderon are powerful beings, far more powerful than any mere mortal could hope to be. This spell offers a mere fraction of their true power to the most devoted of clerics, and is different for each Elderon. The full list of effects is below:
  • Elder Sight: Granted to Coraga's followers, this allows the caster to create a one-way divination circle that can see almost anything that is currently happening. There are restrictions, however. Because this power is granted by Coraga herself, she can choose to deny the requested vision if it is used with selfish or perverted intent. In addition, it cannot be used to see the future, and seeing into the past requires an object or person from that time.
  • Dwarven Paradox: Granted to Wura's followers, this spell can make a target grow to silhouette 3 (as massive as a jet fighter) until the end of the caster's next turn, doubling all melee and unarmed damage dealt.
  • Attractiveness Overload: Granted to Bayu's followers, this spell makes a target so attractive to a wall or ceiling, that it manifests as a gravitational pull. This can be used to immobilize enemies, or to walk on the walls. This effect lasts for a number of rounds equal to the caster's ranks in Knowledge.
  • Goldenwing Roar: Granted to Drogus's followers, this spell sends a powerful roar that deals Sonic damage to all enemies in front of the caster, and can even be used in places where there is no atmosphere.
  • Weather Command: Granted to Araque's followers, this spell allows the caster to change the weather of their current location, from summoning or removing storms to causing lightning strikes and heatwaves. This cannot be used in places where there is no atmosphere, or if the caster is not currently on a planet.
  • Moonlight Howl: Granted to Lycaros's followers, this spell grants the target the speed and strength of a wolf pack, allowing them to move from short to long range in a single maneuver, and any attacks they make gain the Vicious quality with a rating equal to the caster's ranks in Knowledge, and a critical rating of 2.
  • Gorgon's Gaze: Granted to Mulus' followers, the target of this spell must make a Discipline check with a difficulty equal to the caster's ranks in Knowledge. If they fail, they become petrified and cannot move for a number of turns equal to the caster's ranks in Knowledge. The caster may spend t from the spell's check to make the condition permanent. Permanently petrified people can be saved if someone, including the original caster, casts Gorgon's Gaze on them again.
  • Miracle Charm: Granted to Dalomon's followers, this spell can heal any injury, cleanse any illness, and even regrow missing limbs, although this process usually takes a few days. It can be used to depetrify those affected by Gorgon's Gaze, and restore a character's wound and strain thresholds. It cannot be used to revive the dead, however.
  • Chaos Word: Granted to Endiro's followers, this spell's effect is determined by replacing "word" with a single-word command during the casting. Endrio will then aid the caster, usually through acts of mischief or trickery. It is said that no two Chaos Word spells operate the same way. For example, one use of "Chaos Extinguish" might summon a prank flower that dowses flames in water, while another might conjure a fire extinguisher which is then thrown at the fire.

Manifestation

Divine Ultimatum's effects always spawn from a central runic circle surrounding a smaller one, both of which appear during the casting motions.
Gestures & Ritual
To cast Divine Ultimatum, the caster must first stretch their arms out about equal distance from each other, palms facing outward, their left above their head, and their right about waist height, like so:
Then, they must rotate them around an imaginary central point, creating the outer runic ring as they go, while saying the first name of the spell in question.
Divine Ultimatum Step 2
Then, they bring their hands together in the center of the circle, with their wrists pressed against each other, and their palms stretched outward.
Divine Ultimatum Step 3
Finally, they must rotate their palms in the opposite direction they rotated their arms before, while saying the second word in the spell's name.
Divine Ultimatum Step 4
While doing all of this, the caster must concentrate on the desired effect of the spell before releasing its energies.

Good job! For an article explaining the rules of a game, I found it quite entertaining, and your efforts really show in both the details and the illustrations of the sidebar. My favorite is definitely Weather Command (I just love any kind of magic relating to nature and the elements :P). "Attractiveness Overload" is a funny name; before reading the description, I assumed it would turn the caster into the most beautiful person in the universe and everyone would be romantically or sexually attracted to them!   I would like to know more about these Elderon beings. Are they like the gods of your world? I see that in Elder Sight, Coraga can deny the effects of the spell. Can the same happen with the rest of the effects? Like, if an Elderon is annoyed at the caster, deny them the effects of the spell they want to cast?   That was an interesting read, thanks for sharing! :)

I'm glad you enjoyed it! Yes, the Elderon are my versoin of gods, and I do think that the "denying your request" bad effect can and should happen every now and again, either due to the player's actions or that particular elderon being an arsehole.

A simple, but well done spell to be honest! I like the simplicity to it all, and the various effects of it. Though there are some few weird things I want to speak out about.   Silhouette 3 being as big as a jet fighter: in length, or in height? I think it may be better to describe it in either feet or taking something more known for its height than length.   attractiveness overload: You say that they become so attracted to a wall or ceiling they walk upon it, but is it like a magnetic force or literally they become obsessed? I think a better synonym could be used since all I think of is a guy making out with a wall.   Also I find the effects part isn't required. Feels a bit too minimal and unneeded for the article itself.

Otherwise, keep up the good work! Loving this article!

Thank you for your input! for Attractiveness Overload, I do mean that it's like a gravitational force, and I did try to make it clear that it's the wall that has the attraction, not the target. I may have to go back and rewrite a few things. As far as the silhouette thing goes, It's mainly for compatibility with Genesys' rules, which encourage vagueness for the sake of a better roleplaying experience.

I love the images that accompany the spell itself, can someone who has lost their arm still practice this spell? Would just repeating the motion in the hand they still have allow them to cast?

No, sadly, losing an arm means that you can't cast this spell, period. Luckily, there exist a variety of magic and technology that can regrow it.

It's an interesting idea to have a spell vary depending on which god the caster calls to. I also liked the diagram for the movements (I always have trouble to translate words into ehat is supposed to happens, so that was a godsend there). i do think the arrows in the second picture should end at the arm position, or am mistaken?   Also, why is it called divine ultimatum?

I'm glad you enjoyed it! I called it Divine Ultimatum because it's the ultimate divine spell. If you have a better suggestion, I'm all ears!
