The Undercity

We were close to the entrance of the Undercity when the legion of stoneguard opened the gate and just for a moment you could hear the screams and battle cries of the prisoners as they tried to rush the soldiers before they closed it again. Never have I wanted to visit a place less.   --10th of Lead, Year 55

Government

Any criminal given a prison sentence by either The Forge Council or the Old Dwarven Government is simply thrown into the Undercity to survive until their sentence is up, where they are expected to be at the gate to be let out. Warlords, kingpins, and mob bosses of many different types control sections of the complex, which has now spilled into the old sewers of The City of Stadupglod, fighting for meager resources and territory.

History

In the immortal era the dwarves built to house the strongest prison in their empire. It was to be able to contain the most dangerous of the immortal dwarves in cells built into the section of the The Great Forge that ran through the plate of stone the city was built on. They were cast in the same Black Iron that made up The Great Forge, and so were nearly indestructible and scorching hot.   When Death was released, both the prison and the now mortal prisoners were abandoned by Stadupglod, left to fend for themselves. Once the Forge Council was established, they began to use the prison as a repository for criminals and halfbreeds, swelling the number of prisoners, who eventually found a way into the sewers under the city.

Architecture

Nearer to the center of the Undercity the original black iron cells are stacked in levels up and down the center shaft of the Great Forge. The sewers spread out a few meters underneath Stadupglod, made of the same grey stone as the city,
