The Longhouse

The Headquarters of the Rivermen that also functions as a tavern, meeting hall and a sort of emergency shelter. The building is a long timber structure that is mostly just a single massive room. Large enough for a crowd of nearly a hundred, the longhouse hall has been modified with dividing curtains in the eastern end of the hall to give the guildmaster of the Rivermen and his closest underlings a bit more privacy without entirely insulating them from the rest of the guild.   The longhouse has been repaired and refurbished many times, and the original building that stood on the site of the Rivermen longhouse predates the Exodite portal. Build in a time when the River Dent was wilder and less engineered, the structure that server originally as a village hall was build a stone's throw from the banks of the river.   The original settlement along the Dent and the western shore of Lake Donner would eventually merge with the elven settlement of Fin-Allan, and since the Exodite conquest of Cymbar, the building's function as a place of village administration and a place to rule from was obsolete. As the city grew, the longhouse stood unused for some years, until a Khelish wool merchant bought it from the Exodites to use as a warehouse somewhere around 350. In those times, the elf-pioneered mechanization of textile production was still in its infancy, and the Khelish merchant lived a successful life, passing his business and assets on to his descendants.   However, by the year 410, the elves had assumed control of much of the final production in Fin-Allan, and simply rented the labor of humans in the city. The Dent River Millworkers' Guild formed to protect the interests of these humans, and quickly swelled with membership. It was at this time that many of the Khelish business wool merchants were being displaced or having to shift their focus purely towards the procurement and transport of raw materials. Many suffered severe financial difficulties went bankrupt, and such was the case with the then owner of Longhouse. The guild, needing a space for their own use, pooled their funds and bought the longhouse.   Since then, the longhouse has been the common property of the Rivermen, and looked after by a trusted member of the guild.
