Dark Forest Harper Griffon

This curious and rare creature is a type of bird. It's about the size of an deer, has two large and four smaller wings, four strong legs and a huge, wide tail. They have a soft, smooth skin covered in oily thin feathers, which is usually either light yellow or brown with spots of black, white or blue. a combination of these colors.   They live in rainy areas and are extremely rare. They're carnivores and their sharp beaks and long hook-like tongue are ideal for eating smaller creatures.   They're nocturnal and rely on their sight and taste buds to get around. They do have huge, sharp beaks, but their sense of smell is not that great. They have large, slanted eyes and narrow, leaf-like angular ears. Their heads are long and narrow in comparison to their bodies.   They make sounds ranging from low pitched to relatively high pitched and have a impressive wide range of sounds they make to indicate discoveries, dangers and otherwise communicate with each other.   These creatures are calm, but they'll defend their territory strongly. They mate once every five years and they mate with a select few partners throughout life. Which, with their short lifespans, isn't too surprising.
