"Ring-a-Bell Ring-a-Bell Dong Ding Dong
Chime the bells as you sing this song
Kit to start so Buval hears
Lod will wipe away your tears
Din to wrap you up so tight
Ral will help you sleep tonight
Play this tune to feel strong
You'll be safe if you know this song"
Ring-a-Bell, a popular nursery rhyme in Jostoli
Everyone in Jostoli knows the ring-a-bell song, children sing it in the streets to skip rope too and mothers hum it as they nurse their newborns. The song is as old as the town and was written by the first High Toller for his children, his intention was that should there ever be trouble they would know which order to ring the bells in the tower in the centre of town.
The four bells Kit, Lod, Din and Ral, were made to call down the protection of Buval. should they ever be rung in the correct order by a true believer in their hour of need Buval will come to their aid. each one can be seen in the bell tower at the centre of town and sit at intervals up its height, the only bell that is not mentioned in the rhyme is Arc the bell that Buval rang when he became a god.
In current times few realise the power that the rhyme hides, but it is still whispered by those who wish to ward off bad luck almost like a prayer. but despite the ignorance of the more modern generations, some have taken to wearing miniature re-creations of the bells on bracelets and necklaces as a form of lucky charm.
