Laws of Magic

Written by HelplessBystander

Magic is the keystone of civilisation, without it, all pretense of civility and restraint would be lost as two thousand years of progress are rendered worthless. Despite the rarity of mages, spellcasters, and those who could channel magic in any way/shape/form, the appearance of even one adept in the arts could change the outcome of a war or preserve a merchant ship carrying priceless artefacts from the wrath of the elements.   As the foundation upon which all discoveries are found and the base frame-of-reference for any intrepid researcher conducting experiments and/or research into the laws governing reality, the lack of proper spellcasters are a daily reminder to the scholars and the masters the importance of its existence and how ill-equipped they truly are in their pursuit of understanding.   The nature of magic stems from many sources that meld, merge, and resonate with each other in a strange pattern of dips and spikes of potent energy that further entangles it with the land. With magic now being virtually indistinguishable from any other facet of natural law, The Masters of Philosophy had declared the presence of Magic as the Fourth Organ of the world in the 2nd Bipartite Council. The only suriving codex on Magic compiled through many, many, many serious discussions are writting in the Sifǐ Language

Manifestation

  1. No magical effect is truly permenant (Exceptions apply as in the case of The Endbringer, certain Gods and their progeny).
  2. Side effects or indirect effects of spells are, to a certain degree, permenant (eg. if a spellcaster conjures up magic arrows of energy and aim it someone. The arrow itself is not permanent and will dissipate in a few moments whereas the the unluck person in question will be struk with a rather permanent case of dead)
  3. All direct properties of magic are transient and the duration of its effects are directly proportional to the energy expended and the nature of the effected target.
Type
Metaphysical, Arcane
