Wilderfeast
The Wilderness is a thick, ancient forest that once covered all of the sphere now known as Crounereaume. Yet by strength, guile and fortune, the knights of the sovereignities cut back the wilderness, creating a haven for the common folk. But the Wilderness still promised much, if one could survive its trackless depths, ravenous predators and chaotic fey inhabitants. Those who learned the ways of the Wilderness could bring back game big enough to feed their village for days, compared to the animals that remained untouched by the mystical wilds.
It takes a special kind of person to be such a hunter. And those who become such hunters are served a special feast, to celebrate their accomplishments and their future success as providers.
History
The tradition began during the very birth of the Sovereignities of Crounereaume. By necesitty, hunters of the land had dared the Wilderness to provide, but as the wild lands where pushed back, it became less of a necesitty. Still, the game that could be hunted in the wilds became important to many villages and towns on the edges of the Wilderness, yet the dangers inherent to the place meant that only the most daring hunters would go. Whenever on e would set out, it was with the knowledge that hey might never return. And so, upon their return, they would be greeted with cheers and celebration, a feast held in their honor.
Over time, the Wilderfeast specifically became about a hunters first forray into the Wilderness, a journey that forveer marks them and elevates them to heroes in the eys of their fellows.
Execution
The Wilderfeast is usually held with a decacycle of the hunter's return, though circumstances such as ongoing tournaments or ismilar might see in delayed longer. It is a festival that usually lasts an entire cycle, with three large meals held in morning, midday and evening. The entire village or town participates. Depending on the settlement, other events such as dancing, carnival games or even markets are part of the event. All the while the succesful hunter is treated like a sovereign. The most important meal of the Wilderfeast is made with at least part of the hunter's catch, traditionally as part of the midday meal. The hunter gets the first portion, before symbolically sharing the rest with the rest to symbolise their role as hunter.
Participants
The hunter themself are a key part of the Wilderfeast, bringing the festival's most important meal. The collective cooks of the village also has a major role, serving up the dishes that the settlement will eat. If any knights are in town, they traditionally greet the hunter as an equal, a champion of the sovereignities like themselves.
