Commonwealth Civil War

The Conflict

Prelude

The main reason for the war comes from the defeat of the Qravadox Directorate which had to cede part of its territory which contained a small qravadox population to the newly formed Free Uriy Commonwealth following its defeat in the Continuation War. At the end of the war, racial tensions will erupt between the two communities with the uriys who will feel revenge towards the qravadoxs after hundreds of years of domination. Other factors will fuel tensions such as the feeling of humiliation of the qravadoxs who had taken very badly the defeat of their former homeland and their incorporation into the Free Uriy Commonwealth which they did not accept.

A new designation of the planets decided by the central government to show its authority, this would have the effect of making the qravadox populations of these planets very pissed off, these being attached to the names of their planets. Politicians also implemented several migration policies that aimed to bring uriys to the southern planets to relieve Ungus who was very populous at the time. Indeed, the Qravadox Directorate prohibited the uriys from leaving their home planet which led to overpopulation on Ungus, one of the major factors that triggered the revolt. The planets of the south only had qravadoxs which increased the already very strong racial tensions when uriys population arrives.

The event that will set fire to the powder is an attack organized by a supremacist group uriy considered as terrorist, the attack will make a dozen dead qravadoxs. Immediately after, demonstrations will break out, turning into violent riots and finally into urban warfare after a week. Leading the rebellion, a former general of the Qravadox Directorate managed to assemble a little fleet with civilian ships which they armed with stocks from the Qravadox Directorate. This general succeeded in gathering under his banner the forces of the planets known today like Gegeporia, Kleggebore and Ugglog which he assembled for a small fleet.

Deployment

During the war, the Free Uriy Commonwealth will deploy its entire fleet to counter the rebellion raging in the south of the territory while the rebels will also commit all their forces to the conflict. While the forces engaged on the rebel side will steadily diminish due to their defeats, the Commonwealth forces will steadily grow stronger through the months as the central government stabilizes.

Battlefield

Unlike most conflicts in the galaxy, a significant portion of the fighting will take place on the surface with the early riots against the Commonwealth government quickly turning into urban warfare. Other battles will also be important, especially the battle of Gegeporia which will see the final defeat of the rebel leader. More minor land combats will also be conducted by the two belligerents, but they will mainly be located on asteroids, minor planets and other places of strategic importance in environments closer to space context than a planetary one. The rest of the fighting will take place in space with the clashes of the fleets of the various belligerents.

The Engagement

It was shortly after the first open rebellions that a former qravadox general at the head of the rebellion succeeded in gathering under his banner the forces of the planets known today like Gegeporia, Kleggebore and Ugglog which he assembled for a small fleet. His military genius enabled him to win the Battle of Kanadrius against inexperienced government forces. Unfortunately for him, being cut off from qravadox support due to his galactic position, he could not hold out for the long haul. After a year of fighting, the trend began to reverse.

Indeed, thanks to the support of the Zelvan Council as well as to a lesser extent that of the Myrran Trade Union in expertise and equipments. Thanks to new tactics and commands which had gained experience from numerous skirmishes, the Commonwealth's government was able to launch a widespread counterattack. After the rebels defeated at the Battle of Ugglog which saw the destruction or redemption of all rebel navy, the rebel forces disintegrated. These were defenitively defeated during the capture of Gegeporia in September 2432 where the general leading the rebellion was killed in action.

Outcome

In the short term, the conflict made it possible to definitively stabilize the Free uriy Commonwealth which could really begin the construction of its government and the reinforcement of this one. Unfortunately, the destruction caused by the war will leave the Free Uriy Commonwealth vulnerable to outside influences as it seeks help to rebuild itself. It is mainly the Zelvan Council and the Myrran Trade Union, with a predominance of the Zelvan Council, which will rush to help the Commonwealth which will de facto put it under their influence.

Aftermath

In the long term, as said before, this war definitely put the Free Uriy Commonwealth under the majority influence of the Zelvan Council and the lesser influence of the Myrran Trade Union. The existence of the Commonwealth as a state will also be recorded for all the entities of the galaxy who will recognize the new state, some despite themselves as the Qravadox Directorate a few years after the war.

Historical Significance

Being a relatively minor conflict, it had no real consequences for galactic history, although the outcome of the war definitely convinced the Qravadox Directorate to speed up negotiations with the Kingdom of the Houses of Youndarim for the signing of a military cooperation treaty to counter Alliance influence in the region.

Legacy

This war marked the qravadox and uriy population of the Commonwealth differently, the former being deeply traumatized by this war since a good part of their population was directly involved in the conflict and the latter much less. Indeed, even if there were deaths, they are mainly military since the uriy colonization efforts on the planets which were mainly affected by the conflict had only just begun, the uriy presence was therefore less important. This war is therefore generally perceived by uriy society as something distant, the consequences of which have been limited.

Technological Advancement

For this conflict, technological advancements will be very rare, the rebels being provided by the qravadox and not being able to really lead technological advancements. The Commonwealth, meanwhile, was provided by the Zelvan Council and the Myrran Trade Union, but unlike the Rebels had the ability to upgrade what was given to them. That's how he, from that, create new classes of ships, new guns and many other technologies that will be transposed into the civilian domain.

Strength

Although recently formed and therefore possessing a relatively modest armed forces, the Commonwealth can count on the tacit support of the Myrran Trade Union, which provides it with equipment and technical assistance. All this means that the Commonwealth, although having only a slight lead at the start of the conflict, will completely crush the rebellion at the end of it.
The rebellion is supplied with weapons by the Qravadox before and at the very beginning of the war, but the outbreak of hostilities will make it very difficult to supply. This will even become impossible in the middle of the war with the reinforcement of the Free uriy Commonwealth which will therefore better monitor its borders and block arms trafficking to the rebellion. The strength of the Qravadox Liberation Group is therefore quite relative, it will manage to compete with the Commonwealth thanks to the military ingenuity of its leader, but he will soon find himself surpassed.

Casualties

Losses on the Commonwealth side were significant, though not catastrophic, especially early in the war. However, the losses of the Commonwealth were nothing compared to those of the rebels who will be almost all annihilated during the fighting.
The losses of the Qravadox Liberation Group will be catastrophic, largely due to its total defeat during the conflict which will lead to the annihilation of most of its forces. Its leader was also killed during the capture of his stronghold on the planet where the rebellion had begun.

Objectives

The objective of the Commonwealth is of course to defeat the rebellion in order to restore order on its territory and to preserve its integrity.
The objective of the rebellion is to take the south of the territory of the Commonwealth to declare its independence and thus attach itself to the Qravadox Empire.
