Tower of the Unborn God

The development and birth of a divine being is a long process rarely interacted with by mortals, however occasionally the power of an unborn god bleeds into the realms of those with life spans measured in mere decades or centuries rather than millennia. One such instance is the building known to most as the Living Tower. A structure so tall it seems to touch the heavens and so radiant with magically energy it is said that those who spend but one night within its walls will develop powers of such might they will be as gods among men. The stories of power are mostly hyperbolic however stemming from the simply truth, causing mystery, that no one has set foot inside in several hundred years since the last sealing of the great Tower.

Purpose / Function

Many people ranging from large groups to individuals have tried to purpose this grand structure in the way they saw fit and some have even succeeded, for a time. In the end every army has been driven out by nightmarish creatures within and every individual driven mad from exposure to the overabundance of divine radiation, though legend speaks of one wizard who still inhabits the tower using it as his own arcane fortress to conduct experiments and rituals that would be described by civilized folk as... unsavory.   Most people do not realize the true nature of the tower as connected to a developing god but over the centuries cults and beliefs have developed around it. To some it is a symbol to strive towards as they try to build their own towers the higher or more impressive, and these pursuits are doomed to failure. Others believe it symbolizes the eternally developing nature of civilization, of culture, and of knowledge. Perhaps it is best to let these beliefs remain as who can predict how the greater society would react to learning the tower is the result of an unborn god.

Alterations

As the tower is magically tied to the development of the yet to be born god it grows with the divine. Every heart beat is a new room. Every thought and whim is a new creature to inhabit the building. The structure is a constant state of development and flux with no known end in sight and even those who realize the true nature of the Tower do not know what will become of it when the god is finally born.

Architecture

"Such a massive structure had never been made by mortal hands, and I for one doubt it could every be, as the tip of this tower struggles to invade the very heavens above." - Anonymous Dwarven Observer
The architectural style has changed with the development of the divine being. The bottom floor is constructed of simple stone blocks with any windows being the basic absence of the stone with a wooden shutter. Moving up the tower leads to the use of more precisely cut stones and round arches and rudimentary glass windows. The next section begins to use decorative measures. It includes the white marble and blank walls. Columns can be seen not only on the outside of the floor but lining inner walls on these levels. The most current section goes back to using dark hues in its stone work. It features pointed arches and spires on the outside and high vaulted ceilings on the interior rooms. Many scholars believe the increasingly elaborate stonework and design to signify the god's current capacity for complex thought while others believe it is tied to equivalent of the being bodily development.

History

The beginning of this tower start with the beginning of the entity it is tied to. The divine being in development is the direct result of the meeting the goddess of nature had with the god of civilization. When these two gods met for the first time their was an occurrence, not quite an emotional connection like two mortal beings might have but not quite the natural chemical reaction that happens when an alchemists combines to substances. This was something in between. The occurrence resulted in the developing of a new god, one who would likely embody not the primal savagery that comes with forces of nature but also not the orderly discipline of complete civilization.   The raw power leaked from the development of this god to be over the first thousand years formed the foundation of the tower. At the end of this millennium the god's heart beat for the first time, and with this first heart beat formed the first room. The first room was simple, a grand hall with one massive entrance no furnishing or inhabitants. The hall was used as storage for a time after it was discovered by the race of men, but when 100 years after the first, the second heartbeat rang springing a second room into existence the humans would instantly try to tear the building down. To their surprise they could not, the divine power creating the building also protects it from harm, so they would seal it closed.
"Superstitions are nothing more than stories meant to curtail the desires of the ambitious. I will occupy that tower and you will all see there is nothing to fear." - Hiberon Talsimus
The tower would remain closed for another 500 years, enough time for several divine heartbeats and thus several rooms to be added, but an ambitious general, named Hiberon Talsimus, would break the seals open in the desire for his own fortress. As his army broke the seals they found the empty first hall the same way it was left by the first human inhabitants further cementing the generals suspicion the worry over the tower was all superstition. After all a complex that manifests rooms on its own is ridiculous notion that even if true only meant the general would have extra space for supplies and men if it decided to manifest a new room. Hiberon's suspicion would prove to be inaccurate however as once his soldier's made it through many locks into the third room and giant slither abomination would assail them. Hiberon lost many men fighting this horror of the tower. This event did not alter his course of action however as he would order his many to secure the final rooms in belief that once the room were secure the building would pose no threat.   Five years into the occupation the developing gods heart would beat again creating a new room. This room room was nothing more that ten foot be 10 foot square but it housed an abomination so horrid the sight would drive men mad. After a multitude of disastrous attempts at ridding the abomination from the Tower general Talsimus would be forced to admit defeat and withdraw from te structure once again sealing it. This cycle has continued in perpetuity up to the current date as one leader thinks they have the man power they open the tower only to find that the tower is more frightening and more bloodthirsty than imagined. So in reaction to this every leader has resealed the entrance but in a strange turn of events recently the Tower has broken the seals barring entrance itself.
