Balyoms
The Balyoms are a space-faring race which command the second largest empire in the universe. They are native to San-Kashii, a hostile land which forced them to adapt into the powerful warriors they are today. Most well-known for their long, deadly tails, and the flames atop their head, the Balyoms also boast far more physical strength than one might imagine by looking at them.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Balyoms are a humanoid race, standing at an average of 6-7.5 feet tall. They have chitinous areas as a form of natural armor on certain areas of their bodies. These areas include the abdominal and pelvic regions, as well as their forearms, shins, and in some cases their thighs.
Breathing is done via vents in the tops of their skulls. The gases leaving their bodies gives the illusion of fire, although they do not produce heat or light of their own.
Genetics and Reproduction
Balyom reproduction is heavily influenced by warrior culture. Despite the modernization of many of the Balyoms' traditions, their reproductive rituals have stayed nearly the same. Originating from the Guso tribe, the actions taken to ensure a strong, healthy baby based on their beliefs has become widespread and practically universal among Balyoms.
When two Balyoms decide to create their young, they seek out a strong and powerful beast to slay. Once slain, the two mate atop its carcass and an egg is fertilized. They stay with the carcass for several days until the egg is laid, at which point it is soaked into its blood and dried with its flesh. The reason for this is so that the child born from the egg will be born already possessing the strength of the slain beast.Dietary Needs and Habits
Balyoms are technically omnivorous but greatly prefer meat, as they have trouble digesting most plants on San-Kashii. Their ideal food intake averages out to about 6 pounds per day, not taking into consideration feeding tablets.

While there are several colors of flames for Balyoms, the most attractive tend to be shades of red or blue, although this isn't a major factor in determining a mate aside from purely aesthetics. Notably long tails are also considered extremely attractive.
Gender Ideals
Balyoms are almost always genderless. Some do identify as male or female, though the vast majority do not.
