Ten Things Everyone Knows

There are ten things everyone in Soros knows.   1. The gods are new. While the gods claim to have always been around, they only recently appeared to the people. They claim to have saved the world, but no one is completely certain of their claims.   2. There are new intelligent species. When people awoke from the darkness of the Dream, there were more sentient species running around than the original four. No one knows their true origins.   3. The world is unfamiliar. Some landmarks of the World That Was are still standing, but not in the places they used to be known for. There are new and unfamiliar places. Some folks believe that the world they're in now is not the one their ancestors were born in. Others believe the world was taken apart and put back together again in strange ways.   4. Magic is the same, but not as predictable. The same four types of magic practiced before the Dream still exist, but now seem to follow bloodlines. Some folks gain it at random. Some practitioners feel like magic is a blessing and some feel as if magic itself is judging how it's being used, sometimes failing, or "resisting" being cast in certain situations.   5. There are strange stone circles. No one knows where they came from, but they cannot be harmed or moved. Often voices are heard around them. Sometimes in the form of a chorus and sometimes in cacophonic screaming.   6. There are strange creatures around. Creatures no one has ever seen or heard about have been appearing. Like the other intelligent species, no one really knows where they came from.   7. The Aelvar's doomsday weapons still exist. The Aelvar never got to use all of their weapons or devices in their bid to crush the resistance or destroy the world. They still exist and are just as dangerous now as they were when they were created.   8. The nighmare creatures the Aelvar created stalk the land. When the Aelvar created nightmare monstrosities to hunt down the Denro, they lost control of them. They survived the near destruction of the world and still stalk the land, hunting down anything they can eat, and they can eat a lot. They also like to play with their food.   9. Dragons and drakes have appeared. New creatures calling themsevles dragons and drakes have appeared suddenly and are following people who can use magic. They refuse to explain why.   10. Slavery is legal. Due to the machination of the Acquisitions Guild the world has embraced slavery and indentured servitude as legal punishments or as ways to work off debts. There are supposed to be hard and strict limits, but are often overlooked or conveniently misplaced paperwork cause folks to end up in those positions for significantly longer than what they were sentenced to. The Guild makes a tidy profit hunting down escaped criminals and slaves.
